CONTACT: ARGFest-o-Con I'm relaying this at the request of those who were there.
Upon checkin, a few folks had packages waiting for them. Here's what they got, if memory serves:
Imbri -An ad for Kinkos
ScarpeGross -A map to various Kinkos locations around Las Vegas, + $6.00 cash
AlienDial -A LLL business card, with the letters "FOIA" scrawled on the back.
SpaceBass -A bunch of business cards for the group, with "GB's @ 3:00 pm" written on the back of each.
MottJr -A note from Stephen Lake, inviting us all to meet him tomorrow at Gordon Biersch restaurant tomorrow at 3pm!
So, I guess we get to meet Mr. Lake tomorrow. I've attached a shot of the business card.

So Mr. Lake was unfortunately unable to attend, but he bought us a round at Gordon Biersch. But he left a message with this cryptic note at the bottom:
NEON NOTE @ LVCC
Having previously received other items including two separate clues to visit Kinko's, and since there was a Kinkos' right there (as well as a Starbucks for Space and Scarpe...), we visited there first and succeeded in completely mystifying the poor girl at the counter.
Having googled "lvcc" and neon note with our lovely microbrew beers at Gordon Biersch on Mott's multi-functional phone, we decided maybe we had already accomplished what the kinko's hints wanted us to do - figure out what lvcc could be.
Las Vegas Convention Center? Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce? Two cars, two options. (No businesses named neon note etc). We passed on the Las Vegas Cigar Company (owners of lvcc.com) as geographically un desirable for the moment, since we are running out of time before we have to meet Martha over at Hard Rock...
And as of 4:50PM local time, the first two LVCCs are a bust.
More news later.

Hmm, AD, the reference to "FOIA" on the card you received says "Freedom of Information Act" to me. Seeing as the FOIA was also referenced (I believe) at some point on the LLL website, maybe there's some sort of subsidiary clue there?

I've never been to vegas...but could it possibly mean a NOTE on the windshield of a NEON (car) parked in front of the Las Vegas Convention Center?
(Probably a ton of cars right...lol?)

Note was finally found at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Yahoo IM was a bust.
But while at dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe a message was delivered to our table for us to visit the concierge at the Hard Rock Casino and show him a business card. Eureka!
Inside the envelope - mini CD with the hand written message -
To: SMART PEOPLE
HOPE THIS HELPS
-HEXEDITOR
The following, on L3 letterhead, was inside (verbatim).
Quote:
I'm sorry to have missed you today. It seems there are a few
people anxious to speak to me and their intentions are not exactly
conducive to my good health. Recently, events have taken a number
unexpected turns and I'm afraid that my departure does not bode well
for Jake's well-being. If this were a battle we could wage within the
legal system, I would stay. However, our enemies operate outside of the
law and answer only to themselves.
I still can't divulge the details of our business with Jake, but
suffice it to say that our association goes back further than you can
imagine. To protect his interest, and, admittedly, my own, I must
leave his affairs in your capable hands.
The enclosed CDs were delivered to me by another close friend of Jake's.
I've been asked to forward them to those who might be in a postion
to help. My sincerest hope is that you and your associates can render
assistant assistance to Jake and expose those bear him ill will.
Godspeed!
Stephen Lake

Ok, I haven't been following L3 very closely so I'm prepared for the fish if it comes my way, but...

The files in the purge directory are the same as those listed in purge.log previously found on the NRU site. Don't know why I didn't do this before but I dug around and found what the files are:
---------------------------------------------------
aaw582.exe (Lavasoft Ad-aware 5.82)
- anti adware/spyware program
as-101.exe (AntiSniff v1.01)
- monitors networks for "sniffers used by hackers to extract data from systems
dsniff-2.3.tar.gz (dsniff)
- collection of tools for network auditing and penetration testing
eraser53.zip (Eraser v5.3)
- secure data removal tool
fczip004.exe
- not sure about this one but I think it's related to pczipcarck, a zip cracking tool
idserve.exe (ID Serve)
- Internet Server Identification Utility
lc252install.zip
- password cracking tool
patchwrk.exe (PatchWork)
- Internet Anti-Intrusion Patch Verification and Intrusion Evidence Scanner
pskill.zip (PsKill)
- Used to terminate processes
pslist.zip (PsList)
- Used to view detailed information about process CPU and memory usage
rootkit.zip
- not sure about this one but appears to be a hacking kit
showin.zip (ShoWin)
- uncovers hidden windows and some passwords
spade114.exe (Sam Spade v1.14)
- network query tool with extra utilities built in to handle spam mail
spyxx.zip (Spy++)
- gives you a graphical view of the system's processes, threads, windows, and window messages
subotronic.zip (Sub-O-Tronic)
- traceroute utility
superscan.exe (SuperScan)
- TCP port scanner, pinger, resolver
udpflood.zip (UDPFlood)
- UDP packet sender
unpnp.exe (UnPlug n' Pray)
- Disable Windows'Universal Plug n' Play Support
---------------------------------------------------
Most of them appear to the hacking or anti-intrusion tools. Fits the theme doesn't it?

BTW....did you all have any idea at all any of this was going to happen? Or were you completely surprised? I'm curious how shocked you all were, just going to Vegas for a "Fest" and to meet with some fellow ARGers and all of a sudden there's an ARG that has followed you there...lol...did it feel sort of surreal?
