LA Screening 2 - Downtown Disney

Well I was one of the few on here that decided to brave the Anaheim crowds and went to Downtown Disney.

Didn't start off too well. My ride went to my house to pick me up instead of picking me up at work..... that caused about a 30 min delay. We got to Disney about 5:30 and when we got to the theater, it was barren. Nobody around. I went inside to the ticket taker person and she explained the line was on the other side of the building. When we got over there, yup there was a line. The security personnel explained that one of the guys in line (decked out in Hurley Tron shirt + a light disc attached to his back) had done a head count and there was about 180 people in line and the theater holds 250. No problem so off we went.

Line moves up and as we got to the door, we got out wrist bands (cheap green paper ones) and a FLYNN LIVES pin. I asked about the chances for getting another one, and was told not very likely (had to try).

We get inside, turn in our cell phones, get wanded and go to find seats. Well that's the bad part for me and my friend.... we wound up sitting IN THE SECOND ROW. Talk about strain on your neck. We made the best of it, I went and got some popcorn & a drink and settled in for the show.

The film was AWESOME!! I loved it, the crowd loved it, my friend loved it, it was everything I had hoped for plus a little more. Yeah, Garrett's acting was a little flat (didn't bug me) and sitting that close to the screen kinda distorted some of the 3-D effects. Crowd let out a big cheer when Daft Punk came on the screen, and some of the lines give credit to the original film. I can't wait to see it again in IMAX on Wednesday.

I did manage to snag an extra pin (my buddy wouldn't know what to do with a Flynn Lives pin anyway). There are two of you out here that asked me to try to pick one up, so either one of you two, PM me and I'll get it sent out ASAP.

Great show, great time!! Thank you Disney & 42E for this presentation!!!

If you happened to hear a small, Asian 19 year old in the middle-back-ish row shouting "HOORAH!" in a psuedo-deep manly voice, and sitting next to an architecture student who was being reduced to childish fanboy squeals over the design of Flynn's chairs, that would be me. Razz

Short version: I did not see it last night.

Longer version: We got there around 5:25PM (traffic was bad on Ball from the 57) and saw the queue. I guesstimated about 200 ppl and then confirmed with the box office that there were 250 seats.

This is where I differed from Kevin, when I hear this I think, " half these ppl are holding spots which means there are more like 300 folks in line. Even if we get in, I will be hugging the screen. " Maybe it is different for movie theater 3D, but if you are too close to the screen in captian Eo or other theme park shows, the effect just does not work.

So we went to ElecTRONica in DCA instead. I went out to Unforum on my phone to see if there were any UFers there (mainly to ask if we could skip in line) but this thread did not exist yet. O well. Glad to hear everyone got in.

if you happened to see an orange motorcycle in the parking lot with the license plate "RECGNZR" that was me.

Like wise if you say a guy in an orange motorcycle jacket and a CLU helmet, that was me too.

Too bad we didnt exchange numbers and all meet up...

Thinking that it was going to be a madhouse (since apparently it was open to anyone and had been posted everywhere) I went down to downtown disney as soon as I got off work at 3:30. I was shocked when I arrived to only find a small group hanging out. Prolly 20 people. So I had 2 hours to walk around and check out DTD. When I did get in line, I was maybe #60. I really didnt think it was going to fill up. But by the time they started letting us in the line had gotten long. And the theater was full.

Great film. I loved the 3d. Really well done.
Kudos disney and 42E for a great experience. Now to see it in IMAX!!!!

I got there about 4pm, there were about 20 people hanging out. I talked to a couple of them and they said there was no line yet and they were all just hanging out waiting, so i just waited on the left side of the group where there was a spot to sit. As the time passed, more people came and most of them waited on the right side of the group where there was more room to sit. Eventually the right side became crowded and new people that came assumed it was a line and lined up on that side. When security finally moved us into a formal line, they assumed the side i was on was the front and they moved us around the building with just 2 people ending up in front of me! I felt a little bad that I was in front of some of the people that arrived before me, but that's the way security handled it and nobody complained. Everyone seemed excited, friendly, and generally in a good mood - plus none of the first 20 people into the theater are going to have a problem getting a good seat. Overall it was a great group of people we had there. Although I was amazed at how many people had no idea what Flynn Lives was...

Anyways, I had a friend come and he got there around 620. The line had just been cut off, and he wasn't able to get a wristband. I spotted him when I went out to get a soda and told him to just wait around...maybe there was a tiny chance there'd be an extra seat. Turns out there WAS and he got the last seat in the house. He lucked out and got a seat in the last row of the first section, so it wasn't too bad.

We both really enjoyed the movie! Thanks 42E and Disney! It's been a great ride!
