I'm still not sure of what is meant by it, but that note quotes the first lines from a Robert Louis Stevenson poem called My Shadow. I read it a bunch as a kid.

I HAVE a little shadow that goes in and out with me,
And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.
He is very, very like me from the heels up to the head;
And I see him jump before me, when I jump into my bed.

The funniest thing about him is the way he likes to grow— 5
Not at all like proper children, which is always very slow;
For he sometimes shoots up taller like an India-rubber ball,
And he sometimes gets so little that there's none of him at all.

He hasn't got a notion of how children ought to play,
And can only make a fool of me in every sort of way. 10
He stays so close beside me, he's a coward you can see;
I'd think shame to stick to nursie as that shadow sticks to me!

One morning, very early, before the sun was up,
I rose and found the shining dew on every buttercup;
But my lazy little shadow, like an arrant sleepy-head, 15
Had stayed at home behind me and was fast asleep in bed.

Hey guys, I have a request - you may have seen the thread I started asking for guest writers to put together a short article in a weekly ARG report. I'm hoping to get a different writer in each week to write about a particular ARG, hopefully each week people will be able to go to my blog and read the article and learn about a game they might not have heard about.

With any luck it will be a good resource to bring enthusiastic players over to unFiction and into ARGs in general.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in writing one for The Hollow Men? I would like to leave the content down to the writer and it wouldn't have to be very long, just introduce the game, summarise the story etc.

If anyone is interested in getting involved then the link to the thread is in my signature (theres also more info there on what I'm trying to do) - either leave a post there, PM me, leave a comment on my blog (also linked in my sig) or email me at will.r.knightSPLATgmail.com.

Thanks!
Will

Nigel's tweeting that some dude followed him onto a train and then onto a bus.

I have a theory...Shadow wanted us to contact the friend Logan is staying with, Patrick. In my emails with Patrick it seems he thinks Logan's fears of being harassed are either delusional, or are over dramatized. Also, in my emails with Logan she continues to assert she has no idea what is going on and has never hurt anyone.

I'm thinking there's a chance this may be a "So I Married An Axe Murdered" kinda thing. What if Logan really is innocent and it's actually Patrick that's been doing everything to the men she dates? In the audio recording Logan also says something about Patrick always stealing her men. I dunno, just a thought.

I am getting the same reaction from Patrick. That this has been basically blown over proportion, nothing to see here, etc.

I think it's interesting the lack of empathy from Patrick's side to D's perception of the stalker.

/edit: Just got this interesting info:

Patrick wrote:
D's just in the next room over, would you like her to email you? I can get her to do so.

So Patrick is D's roommate??

/edit2: I also got an email from D.

Quote:
Hello,

I'm sorry to bother you, but a good friend of mine gave me your email and asked me to send you a message.

If you're friends with some of the people that got dragged into this email oddness, rest assured that I am as well as possible. I haven't really gone back to my house to see what else may have been left there, though. I run in to feed the birds and leave as of late. However, I will have to face my unfounded fears soon enough and I will tell you if anything is there that shouldn't be, if you would like.

Onto more pleasant matters, though; if you're friends with Patrick, then you must be a decent sort. He's a good guy. After all, like a great poet once said,
"But if the while I think on thee, dear friend,
All losses are restored and sorrows end"

The quote is from Shakespeare's Sonnet 30. An analysis reveals that she actually means this:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
But if I think of you while I am in this state of sadness, dear friend,
All my losses are compensated for and my sorrow ends.

Sounds like she needs us.

D is just staying with Patrick because she's too afraid to stay at home.

Got an email from Shadow that had some Welsh in it translating to:
Quote:
I sat on the shore
Fishing, with the grace of plain behind me
I will at least set my lands in order?

Can't find the poem it's from since Google probably switched a few words in the translation. Here's the original:
Quote:
Yr wyf yn eistedd ar y lan
Pysgota, gyda'r plaen gras tu ôl i mi
Byddaf yn o leiaf gosod fy tiroedd er?

You and Google were right there, fairyqueen. It's from T.S. Eliot's The Waste Land
Quote:
I sat upon the shore
Fishing, with the arid plain behind me
Shall I at least set my lands in order?

Also, Patrick's email addy, "theuniversedisturbed" is an Eliot reffy from The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. Interesting maybe?
Quote:
Do I dare
Disturb the universe?
In a minute there is time
For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse.

Nigel sounds like he thinks the guy from the train and bus is still out to get him, and wants us to find and help him before that happens:

"Still on the run. Need someone I can trust. I posted a picture of my awesome cat last night. Use him to find me."

(edit to add link to cat pic)

So... what is reflected in the cat's eyes? and does said cat have a name?

[edit]
Just looked at enlarged pic of cat. I can't see anything reflected in it's eyes, but mine are not that good. Looks like the pic was taken in a room with a popcorn style ceiling and the blinds behind the cat are closed. given how close to the ceiling the cat appears to be it must have been on a cat tree or other furniture when the pic was taken.

I bet he used stenography to hide something in the image.

I have tried to decrypt the image using Invisible Secrets but it's asking me for a password in order to decrypt it. I already tried "efs" with no success. I have some concerns with the accuracy since it's an older version but if someone has the newer version you might want to try running the image through.

Info on stenography: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steganography

i thought stenography too, and tried a few online ones, but they turned out gibberish...and not the RIGHT kind of gibberish either; i don't want to download a desteg program on this computer as it's not mine

i tried using "gyefsp" as a key, no luck

hollow
shadow
logan
Elliot

(again...using only online programs)

I thought maybe the cat's name??? but i can't find anything about it

Or... ask Logan if she knows the name of Nigels cat. [edited to add] Email is away!

or you could always use gawker's list of most common passwords (revealed this week after the gnosis hack) Twisted Evil

http://www.duosecurity.com/docs/top250gawker.txt

eta: hmmm...just noticed there is a "efs" embedded in gyefsp -- is it possible that gyp? could be a password?

Eta2: blew up the picture of the cat's eye...my husband and i both think there are letters there, but hard to make out; increasing resolution doesn't help...a magnifyer might: our best guess is: "happy"

CONTACT: email from Logan
She does not know the name of the cat

Got a replyfrom D to the question about Nigel's cat:

Oh, hello again!

Posted? What do you mean? A picture? I've never seen his cat. Would you mind showing me?

I'm sorry, though I never found out his cat's name.

Hi D!

Nigel posted a cute picture of his cat the other day. By any chance to you know the cat's name?

Thanks!

I'm not certain I should send Logan the link to the picture - if Shadow McShadowface can see through her eyes/thoughts I don't want to give out the info that could screw Nigel.

ETA: Tried camoflage to desteg - either there is nothing there, or we still need a password (
Tried (no password protection - got nothing
tried awsome got nothing
tried gyp got nothing

Having taken a second look at the cat's eye after Cyng posted about the letters in the eye, I have to agree with her - there does appear to be letters in the eye on the right side of the picture. looks like someone may have opened photoshop and hand wrote them - all I can make out is the last "py" so I will accept that Cyng sees Happy... hmmm... brb

ETA2: happy does not work as a password...

yeah, don't send her the picture! especially if there is a password in the eye

by the way

don't you think it's strange she would ask to see it? kinda creepy????

i'm really bummed out about the passwords

i had tried last night to run the eye through filters/levels/contrast...nothing

when i fist saw the eye, i thought it was a keyboard in the reflection....

so maybe we need to be literal? like catseye???

i know...grasping at straws here

i also was hoping that some veteran would come out and say: Oh, gyp! Of course, he is talking about the generic yield password system...or something equally esotheric

Sad
