Norelco screening in the news

I went to the free screening on monday, open to the public and had a great time. People were polite, had fun, polite, civilized. Not so on Norelco night, where people had to be ticket holders. Thought you folks might like to see this from The Consumerist:

http://consumerist.com/2010/12/tron-preview-screening-marred-by-line-jumpers-mean-staff.html

"Tavie shares her first-person experience of waiting for hours in 20 degree weather to see the new TRON screening, and her run-ins with the professional line-jumpers and surly event staff.

On her blog she recounts how three people saved spots at the front of the line for twenty-four other people who popped up 30 minutes before showtime. Never mind that she and her friend had been waiting there for several hours in mercury-curdling temps. The event staff was not much help either, being more concerned with threatening anyone holding a cellphone and pimping Norelco razors.

The line jumpers and their confederates were pretty ballsy and resisted when the crowd ganged up on them and tried to get them to get in the back of the line. It seems you would have had to gotten physical in order to stop them.

You would think Disney would treat its fans better. At least the movie was good, though.

A few more words about last night's free preview screening of Tron: Legacy at the AMC 42nd Street in Times Square. [tavie]"

Hah! if you read down in the blog there is a post by someone who went to the Chicago screening... talking about people cutting in line. I was there and was two people in front of the cutters she was talking about. They were eventually sent to the back of the line. There were about 15-20 of them who cut in front of us. All families and kids.... One of the kids got theirs though.. running around and hit the sales kiosk with his head and cut it open... As a parent I cringe...as a person waiting in line for 3 hrs.. Karma..

I should say I was livid, and that my anger was the only thing keeping me warm. The sheer number of these people was jaw dropping. I did have a friend meet me a little later, yes. But my ticket entitles me to one guest, and she still stood along with the rest of us for several hours. But this was just several dozen people, and the security were all completely useless.

That was me who posted re: Chicago screening. It looked like it was heading down the path of the internets attacking her for being rightfully upset, which is something I've seen before and really hate.

It really sounds like it was handled very unprofessionally, and that sort of thing is bad for business, aside from being very uncool. As for line-cutters, all I can say is 140,000 some people at SDCC every year manage to handle it without anyone getting stabbed in the eye with a pen (okay, except the one time). There's no reason the same common courtesy shouldn't apply elsewhere.

My friend and I got to the theatre at 3:30. First ones there and we were holding spots for my family, there are six of us. We didn't line up right away because there was no designated area. at 4:30 we go to line up and there are two people in front of us. Amazing how 2 people turned into like 15-20. It didn't matter in the end because we ended up getting the best seats in the house. Also met up with Hayvock and his friend. We had an awesome time. I stuck my phone and ipod in my socks so I didn't have to turn them in. A bit upset that there were no posters to be had, but I did get a Tron Legacy t-shirt...
