[FILM] The Pig and the Green Beans The Flynn Family Dinner Table Don't know if this has been covered / talked about yet or not?
I was not let down by Tron Legacy what so ever!
I cannot wait to see it again.
But, Something i did not understand.
What was with the Pig and the Green Beans??
At the Flynn Family Dinner Table??
I understand that the books probably came into the grid with Kevin Flynn,
Through his many visits. And some of the various other objects.
But what about the Pig and the Green Beans???
Where did they come from?
Did Kevin bring Pigs and seeds into the Grid??
And has maybe a small farm out back??
Would the Seeds and Pigs be able to grow and survive in the Grid?
This also leads me to wonder?
If users must use the restroom while in the Grid?
If they are eating Meat and vegetables?
Maybe this will be explained if there is a Trilogy ?

this bothered me a bit as well, I took it as they need energy while on the grid, like when flynn "drank" in the first movie, being a user he could probably make that energy take any form he wished. would have been nice if he mentioned it though.

I hate to say it. But it REALLY bothered me!
Not them eating it. As much as where the hell did the pig come from ???
Also the Green Beans ??
I wasn't paying attention to Quorra, Did she eat any of the Pig and Green Beans?
I know i saw her drink the energy.

I just took it to be that is how Kevin wanted to consume his energy while in the digital environment.
I think it shows that he hasn't lost his humanity despite being stuck there for so long.
Kevin is able to manipulate & alter code easily, so why not create energy for consumption that is visually appealing to him?

AMEN! I was going to post a thread for this, but someone beat me to it.
This was probably the only thing that while a viable question on HOW a user would survive in the Digital Frontier, needing sustenance, etc, REALLY derailed my immersion into the movie and story when all of a sudden they are dining on food. Don't know WHY it grabbed my focus so hard. Maybe because I like green beans....
Then, then I was wondering which door held the bathroom? Instant Guest Room for Sam? That whole segment knocked me off my focus a bit. Still awesome movie, but that was really, unexpected.
"The Beans are a lie....."
"There is no Pig...."
Just a thought.

I could have not summed it up any better than you just did !
My thoughts exactly!
However, with all this being said.
The original TRON was supposed to have footage, Where TRON and YORI.
Go into a room, I believe there was furniture in it?
But no Pig and Green Beans or any food at all.
Which they would not consume food anyway.
This footage is Bonus Material on the Anniversary DVD.
I'm sure many of you have seen it already.

When on the grid they should be in a digital state. They would need energy and Flynn would have it in what ever form he liked. It's not a pig or green beans its just energy to look like food.
Now the real problem should be If you are digitized by the beam as stated in the first movie then why could Sam bleed. I could go on and on about this but don't feel like typing

I figured that Flynn had just writing coding for the Grid where certain forms of energy he needed to consume where in the form of food (green beans and pig or intense. And in truth it could be a lie just a digital illusion for users when in the Grid. This would make it easier for Flynn to cope with being stranded. Perhaps he preprogramed certain items into the Grid just in case he did get stuck or just for being in the system for a long time period, an hour would have been a couple days on the Grid.
Also he did create this digital world and it's inhabitants in his and his species image - and people eat and poop so maybe there is a toilet on the Grid. A mighty light rimmed seat that dereezed your crap instead of flushing. Or, maybe thise sweet get ups have a built in catheter (did I spell that right?).

I think one of the novelizations had a segment in it where Kevin is asking Sam how the food is, that he's been trying to re-create the proper textures and flavors. When asked, Sam makes some comment that instead of a fruity taste to the wine, he's getting a motor-oil vibe... something that Kevin takes as an encouraging sign that he's moving in the right direction.
To me, that implies that the food and drink is just a different means of re-energizing programs. In the original Tron, Flynn was recharged by the water just like the others were; he was digital at that point, so he 'ate' the same way they did. I feel that creating food was just Kevin's way of trying to stay 'human' while in the digital world.
Which, given the ending of the film, makes me wonder...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
How is Quorra going to feel about the whole digestive process? Something tells me that Flynn's experiments in food were not nearly enough to prepare her for our world...

Exactly, Kevin doesn't need to consume food, he chooses to.

Umm, really?
Have any of you looked at the inside of any real computer in the last decade? Tell me how in copper, silicon, and fiber optics we get anthropomorphic pieces of software that throw killer frisbees, drive motorcycles that leave rooster tails of light that are as hard as diamond, and burn rocket engines to fly big brackets around? Last I checked, all that happens inside my computer is electrons and photons trade places a lot. Woo, that's exciting! Let's be realistic!
My silly little bio-electric computer lets me imagine what it would be like to be a 12 foot tall guy that can grow feathers and fly. Last time I cleaned my ears, no down and feathers came popping out.
To quote another film about perception vs reality, "You think that's air you're breathing?"
I was a little disappointed I didn't see anyone eating an orange.
Cool points to the one that gets that reference.
