I got called on the phone... a bunch of "help me!", "oh noes!" type stuff, and then he said the password was 37. Then, a few minutes later I got back down to my computer and saw he IMed me...

It looks like http://www.freewebs.com/hbellupefire/joey.htm has been altered. He said he would be in the shard at the same time tomorrow,

He requested that we locate the "command" in "the plains" on his site.

You see that little mark, way up there near the surface of the water? Yeah, that's my depth. haveatit. I can log in and present any answer people want me to.

[Edit: removed any refrences to Bluefire PM being in chat, as it was actually Bluefire the Unficiton user. DOH!]

o-tay, at the meeting know. We have 10 minutes to locate the command hidden in the "plains" on the updated website.

Well the updated joey.htm seems to lead to this.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Take the hidden comment code, which is encoded in Base64. This yields another set of the 30/31/20 obfuscated binary. Converting the binary to text gives a string of hexadecimal numbers, corresponding to ASCII codes. Converting those gives a reverse sentence:
mth. ______ eht ni ylniam syats niaps ni niaR ehT

Flip that around, fill in the blank, and you get a page with an image. White on white text on the page says "stegging here, and stegging there stegging stegging everywhere!" and "Look at your past for the answers to the future!"

So now I suppose we need the steg program used, and the password (which comes from the past?).

My first inclination would be to try keywords from earlier in this trail before branching out.

Password thoughts:

Could the password be anything to do with the updates Code from the Joey.htm source, namely the part:
Code:
Y 70 61 73 73 20 33 37

Could the password be simply "37", as per DeathPrawn's phone conversation?

Could the password be something to do with the random characters in DeathPrawn's IM conversation:
Quote:
bluefire121213: 8sgt
bluefire121213: d
bluefire121213: gtd
bluefire121213: c
bluefire121213: gzr
bluefire121213: z

Could the password simply be "your past", as per "Look at your past for the answers to the future!"

I like the first idea most, simply because it's a page we viewed "in the past" and it's not something who's meaning has been figured out, as of yet. I converted it to ASCII and it didn't seem to make any sense.

- Malrog is brainstorming

Um, I'm sure better minds have already figured this out, but in "My Fair Lady" it is said that "The Rain in Spain Stays Mainly in the Plain."

It's a speaking exercise. So maybe "plain" is the password you're looking for... ok back to lurking on this one...

edit, forgot the .htm at the end, so go to plain.htm... ok, back to the two args I'm already brain-smushed into Wink

Why can't I get to this page? Am I looking in the wrong place? plain.htm gives me a page not found error.

plains

the plain.jpg has the following hidden in it via steg
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

(I used JPHS for windows with password 37 to figure this out)
TEXT FROM STEG:
"In ultima online say "fleeting flock of eagles" to bluefire"
The password comes from the joey.htm file it says
70 61 73 73 20 33 37
which is hex for
pass 37

Ok, since I still seem to be the only one who's going to the shard - I'll try to be there in a couple hours to give the command.

Note: I am at work right now, getting onto UO will cause a small amount of stress between me and my bosses - if anyone else can do this I will appreciate it. Bluefire showed up at the Britain Bank yesterday.

(OOC: and for a joke, pretend you're still figuring out what the command is - He'll wait up to 10 minutes, and watching him interact with other characters begging for in-UO stuff is pretty funny.)

Ok, rough transcript:

Quote:
BF: "STATE COMMAND"

Me: "A fleeting flock of eagles"

BF: "INVALID CHARACTER"

Me: CRAP! "one second" *runs to other comptuer /w password on it*

Me: "Fleeting Flock of Eagles"

BF: "processing..."
"Ahh yex"
"yes"

"you're looking for seagull.htm?

Me: Uhm... crapx2! "yes."

BF: " I must go, unless you have questions."

Me: "Will you be back tomorrow?"

BF: "no"

Me: "Are there other ways to contact you?"

BF: "AIM Bluefire121213"

which (apparently) leads to:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.freewebs.com/hbellupefire/seagull.htm

There doesn't seem to be anything there, though, nor at any conceivable variation on the above...

Also, if you look at the source of seagull.html, there's a big ASCII picture of a dinosaur. A stegasaurus, a la Urban Hunt?

Hey, awesome. I love things like this. I'll keep watching. Not so many people as the others, so the puzzles won't be solved right away, nor will they require a bachleor's degree like some of the Beast puzzles...
