[SPEC/QUESTION?] A possible way to help Melissa

After reading the transcript of Major Trynian's attempt to alert Melissa about the Pious Flea, I have begun to believe that those who answer the phones can do even more, and possibly convince Melissa, that not only does the Pious Flea exist, but she has been compromised by it.

I can think of two avenues to try.

First, inform Melissa, that she has a corrupted or invalid version of the SPDR program.

The SPDR program identifies itself as SPDR-5.14.3
The Pious Flea identifies itself as SPDR-5.14.77

So we could ask her to run a self diagnostic, as Major Trynian did, asking about the SPDR version, and then inform her that the latest version is SPDR-5.14.3 not SPDR-5.14.77.

Second, we can point out that her priorities have changed from

survive
evade
escape
resist

to

seek, behold, and reveal the truth

and then ask her to check her logs to notice the change.

Related. We could cite quotes from her pre-crash report to Captian Green
http://qube.netninja.com/beewiki/PhaseShipboardMemories as further proof of the corruption.

There is one minor drawback: The SPDR won't be able to give it's version because it was destroyed my Melissa (correct me if I'm wrong).

SPDR was deleted by Melissa, but I believe that the Pious Flea is hiding as the SPDR program, since Major Trynian was able to get its current version number from Melissa during the live call. Now this doesn't guarantee that Melissa will be able to restore the old SPDR program, since it was deleted, but it might clue her in to the influence the Pious Flea has on her.

Rebuttle. This could potentially be a bad idea, because the Flea has seemed willing to aid the Sleeping Princess, and removing it, may expose her as well. On the other hand, removing the flea may cure some of the worst symptons of rampancy Melissa seems to be experiencing.

SPDR was surely done away with, but hey... Halo is a microsoft deal, right? I am sure a few "Windows" could improve Melissa's view on the world???? hehehe

Brilliant! Just tell her to check the Recycle Bin! Also, the SP can hide in the /Windows directory.

In all seriousness, I think I recall reading somewhere that the ILB server is running Red Hat Linux. I would check, but I have no idea where you get that sort of info. NSI whois doesn't have it.

You get that info from the web server itself:

Quote:
Apache/1.3.19 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_ssl/2.8.1 OpenSSL/0.9.6 DAV/1.0 PHP/4.0.4pl1 mod_perl/1.24_01

At least, that's what Ethereal tells me about packets received from port 80 of the ILB server.
