[INFO/SPEC]Rani?

So, according to the Sleeping Princess on the humptydumpty page, the name of our newest protagonist is Rani, not Ronnie as we had been previously assuming. It strikes me as kind of an odd name - I wonder if there is any meaning that can be derived from it?

It is not an uncommon name among east Indians. e. g. Rani Mukherjee is a popular Bollywood actress.

Rani is not just a name, it's also a Hindi word that can be translated as:
'Princess'.

Want to see something funny? Durga Rani

I wonder why there are so many mediterranean/East Indian references in this game.

Durga
Rani
Sophia (makes Kofta)
Kamal
Janissary

OMG, I know why! They offshored it! We are playing an ARG that's being run in India!

I know the Axon waves happen in the US but isn't there a middle east country that is nuked in the Halo 2 preview? (Zanzibar is a muliplayer map but that Zanzibar is on the coast of Africa --right? Question

Yeah, but it's quite far from India and the Middle East.

Yeah, but Zanzibar is 99% Muslim.

http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/tz.html

Omani Arabs ruled Zanzibar from 1698 to 1890, and governed under British control from 1890 to 1964.

Also, when you watch the preview, at one point MC looks out the window of the ship he's on and you can see the US. The location of the first explosion? Redmond .... Smile

Are you sure? Couldn't it mean 'Queen', instead?

Of course.
Translation's not science.
There's no direct matchup between European courtly ranks and those of old north India. They're entirely different worlds.
And in some contexts, 'Queen' would be a more appropriate translation than 'Princess'.

(But when 'Rani' means queen, what would 'Maharani' then correspond to? Five-star queen? Queen-plus? Ultraqueen?)

Well he better protect her, he put her in that situation right? She was identified to him by the unnamed man in the Key Lime discussion. He planted the Receipt phone call for her to find knowing that once she was on to a mystery she wasn't going to let her boss having told her to back off stop her.

So he's clearly using her to investigate the Troy thing (which seems to somehow be connected to the Artifact thing given that Standish tried to have her killed to protect the artifact secreat... at least so it sounds based on Herzog and Standish's confrontation) so keeping her alive and on the case is the only way he'll find whatever it is he's after.

Two things:

(1) The "unnamed man" is named Professori Avi, according to domestic_bliss.wav and flower_delivery.wav.

(2) Col. Herzog pulled his "receipt" stunt a week before he met with Professor Avi and learned of Rani for the first time -- he didn't even have her dossier yet -- and three weeks before we first heard from Rani that the Professor was trying to recruit her. I don't think he had Rani in mind when he called the Quartermaster's Help Desk; I think he was just trying to plant the seeds for someone to investigate what happened on Troy, regardless of who it ended up being. Just my $0.02.
