[OT] Theatre refuses Tron Guy entry to Legacy

http://www.startribune.com/entertainment/popcrush/112387944.html?elr=KArks:DCiUHc3E7_V_nDaycUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aUoD3aPc:_27EQU

Quote:

Jay Maynard, better known as TRON Guy, intended on wearing his famous light-up costume to a showing of TRON: Legacy recently, but his local movie theater refused to admit him. What on earth do they have against awkward costumes? Basically Maynard called a Minnesota theater in advance to let them know that he was going to wear his costume only to be told that he would not be allowed to watch the movie in it because it's "too distracting."

This is a travesty.

Ah, so they did expand on it (at the first report there was no reason given).

To be perfectly fair, they are a private establishment and have the right to refuse service to anyone, but yeah it does take a bit of the fun out of it for a guy like him.

They may have the right to decline him admittance, but its really the epitome of stupid. People would probably pay extra to see a viewing of Tron Legacy with 'Tron Guy'. I'd give him a free pass, on condition he come early and agree to provide photo opportunities.

Now the theater just looks like asses.

BTW, last I checked his costume doesn't glow. Where's the distraction?

he has lighting in the Armoured parts, but they can be turned off. And yeah I'd go out of my way to see Tron in a theater with Jay Maynard.

I'd have to agree, but only if he planned to keep it lit up during the film. I'm distracted by someone ten rows away merely turning on the screen of their phone, so a glowing person would take me right out of the movie.

btw, saw it. loved it.

I posted the TMZ link to this the other day and was just shaking my head when I read this. While I don't agree with the theatre I understand where they are coming from. It's not the lights or colors of the suit that are a distraction it's Jay and the suit itself. Him and that suit are famous even to non TRON fans.

Lame. We went as a group to a showing in LA, and the theater welcomed us with open arms, lights and all. Hard Rock Cafe even became our "End of Line" club, where we hung out and took pics with patrons.

They should've, like suggested earlier, given him a free pass. His choice of seats, and free snacks (within reason_) so long as he agreed to a few publicity shots and turning the lights off during the movie.

As for 'a glowing person taking me out of the movie' In this case.... that might be debatable.

You lucky lucky people. Now when I get to go (again) I can't go for the whole 'dress as a prog' motif. Very much harshing my zen thing.
