Abstergo Industries
Assassin's Creed ARG?

So... Ubisoft, makers of Assassin's Creed, have been getting increasingly ARGy with their cross-media promotion of the AC series. They've tied in the console games with a Facebook game, Project Legacy, and begun selling IG merchandise and other weird stuff. Abstergo is the in-game Templar corporation which serves as the antagonist of the series, running a global conspiracy to keep humanity safe, happy, and unquestioning.

As the proud owner of a limited-edition, brand-new Abstergo Industries R&D hoodie, all of which were shipped to arrive 12/23, I discovered that I had also received a letter (in an Abstergo envelope) on Abstergo letterhead thanking me for my contribution and support for the cause. I also got a shiny Abstergo business card - no name - with the website address www.abstergoindustries.com.

I went there - little else other than a link back to the Ubisoft Workshop shop and Project Legacy, and a 'COMING SOON' logo. But here's where it gets weird and good and ARGy.

On the back of the hoodie was a block of binary:

01001100
01001111
01000111
01001001
01001110

Which translates to:

Now, on the Abstergo Industries website, there's nowhere to login, but...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
if you look at the source code, you find the 'original' IP: 50.16.214.65. And if you go to that page, you get the same page, but with a password prompt in the middle.

I haven't figured it out yet, but when my clothing tells me to go do stuff for the furtherance of the Templar cause, I figure it's time to call in Unfiction.

EDIT: They also recently gave away an 'Abstergo Researcher Pack' to 35+60 people, full of silly Abstergo-branded goodies, but I'm not sure anyone has received any of them yet. If you got one, you lucky dog, let me know!

Thanks Cath. Like I said, Ubisoft's been ramping up what they were doing. I think this is entirely separate from the 'Pieces of Eden' business; the WHOIS on the website checks out to Ubisoft. Here's to hoping they actually do something more than just tease us.

Oh, havent visited Unfiction for a long while but stumbled across this when a friend asked me about Abstergo Industries, and it led me here! Awesome!

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
When going to http://50.16.214.65/index.php you get the password prompt in the middle of the logo. And in the sourcecode it talks about ClientKey, you didn't recieve anything like that Ofiuco, with the hoodie?

Not as far as I can tell. I've scanned in the letter et al and taken pictures of the interesting parts of the hoodie. I looked all over, but I couldn't find any other text on the hoodie itself.

Kinda thinking whatever's in the Researcher Pack may provide more info. or at least I hope so! :) Where's Erudito when you need him?

Speaking of Erudito, over at Project Legacy, something odd has happened, and emails were leaked - see @datadumpscanner on Twitter for details. The video of Anson Peake getting yelled at by his boss was posted on the Project Legacy FB page *by* Anson Peake (allegedly) and the emails were officially disavowed by him as well through the Project Legacy account. I'm not sure if this is connected, but it well could be!

Desmond
Thosewhocamebefore
Warrenvidic
eden
templar
Altiair (sic)
animus

Have you tried any of the passwords used by the characters in AC:B?

I talked to a web developer friend of mine and she thinks that the site may not actually be hooked up to do anything yet. Reading about forms, I was starting to come to the same conclusion. It just punts you back to index.php. We're not 100% sure, but given, again, that the form isn't even on the 'live' page yet, I'm willing to believe they're still preparing.

So... hold those horses, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. They're planning something for Project Legacy (there's a lot of 'coming in 2011s' popping up) so hopefully it'll be soon. I'll keep an eye on it, since I'm playing anyway.

Said friend is also going to receive another limited edition piece of merch, the Desmond shirt. She's promised to let me know what's in the package when she gets it in January.

Yeah, I came to the same thought last night. But being a n00b and the such I decided to keep the thought to myself.

So I guess all we can do now is wait.

Re letter - anyone else struck by the capitalisation in the middle: Clean Energy... etc.
CE UH GE - unsure if that means anything to anyone [if it is, please don't tell without spoilering as nearing end of first game and thoroughly loving it!]

Merry Yule to all!

I looked at the capital letters last night. CE UH GE doesn't mean anything to me, and I couldn't beat it into anything that made sense. Of course, just because I say so doesn't make it right.

Oh, and I can't wait to see where this thing goes...

On Project Legacy there seems to be a bit of interactivity with the Templars. Within the email function you can reply directly to Abstergo. Here's my email on one of my answers:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In the quiz, we stated: "History is accurate."

You responded: "History is only as accurate as the author of the book."

What if you could meet the author of the book? Observe a battle from either side? This is why you are so important to our project. By reliving actual memories, you will help us uncover the truth. Together, our team will rewrite history.

There is also a button to "Report security breach". Hm...

I got the merch from Ubiworkshop (ubiworkshop.myshopify.com), but I got it because it was advertised inside Project Legacy, and because I'm a huge nerd. They are currently still advertising different merch in PL, and I'm sure they will keep doing it, because people are loving it. Ubisoft swears they are going to sell a Desmond hoodie.

Project Legacy, or, as I like to call it, Farmville: Brotherhood, is a pretty fun take on the Facebook game. I'm almost to the end of the current batch of content, but it looks like they're going to be continually updating it for the indefinite future. It even hooks in with your console game! I love it. And on the PL info page, there's a character who works for Abstergo named Anson Peake who talks directly to PL players, which is a nice fun way of doing game announcements. There's a lot of Erudito mischief going around, too..

Have you tried the years in Brotherhood? 1419 1420 1421?

As of this morning, the password submission form has been removed. I guess that means they noticed we were banging on it before they were ready. :)
