I just caught in IMAX 3D myself and I loved it. The sound was so much better this time around, though it could be because it was turned up to 11 this time. But if the seats don't shake when a Reco flies by, then you need your money back! haha

Cool avatar, Tullett! Very Happy

Saw it for a third time tongiht, second LIEMAX viewing. Something I caught tonight that I hadn't noticed before. In Sam's room, we know there are figures of the lightcycles and the disc wars programs. And of course, the ones that Kevin gives him. BUT, if you look closely when Sam looks out of the window to see Kevin ride away, there are several all white action figures on the air conditioning unit in his room. Two of them are Tron and Yori in the famous pose.

Also, he has a full set (including Sark) on his shelf.

His reviews are all this way, they are hillarious but most of them are hardcore fanboy spaz out. But I digress, the screwed up thing? He was a professional reviewer for some local network apparently.
I went back to see if my comment had gotten any feedback. It had: It was removed.

The Movie was great! It was quintessential Tron. Disc battles, Lightcycles, the escape. It played out in almost exactly the same way that the original did, and that was nice to see. There were a couple of plot points that I thought were a bit detrimental to the spirit of the original movie though:

How did the Tron world go from being a paradise back into a desolate place, even when Tron, Clu, and Flynn were there at the same time? Why would Flynn go to make a Utopia when what was most desired in the first movie was a free system?

Tron becoming Rinzler, How they handled that I thought was a bit lame. Definitely the most disappointing part of the movie for me. They don't even show his face! It felt as if Tron simply wasn't in the movie at all. At least they kept him there for the possible 3rd sequel at the end. It would have been cooler if Rinzler had been say, the son of Sark or something. And Tron the one who busted Sam Flynn out of the Light Cycle Grid. Then Rinzler could've fallen into the Sea of Simulation and been the possible nemesis of the 3rd movie. Would have been so much more satisfying overall IMO.

The visuals were ugh. They were nice, but nothing like the original Tron movie, nowhere near as unique. Familiar, but forgettable. They made Jeff Bridges look really good in CGI though.

As for comments more about the movie itself:

The whole ISO plot didn't really have any significance to the movie, which makes me really hope that they greenlight a 3rd movie. It needs to do well! It was kind of disappointing not to get as much closure as the original Tron movie had. The twist at the end was definitely unexpected and sad, but was good.

It was also enjoyable to see what was borrowed from Star Wars, such as Sam Flynn going into a stance to face off with the oncoming light cycle (Luke Vs. Speeder in Return of the Jedi) and Sam Flynn being in the turret against the ship, just like Luke and Han against the TIE fighters in A New Hope. Gave that classic Sci-Fi feeling.

The music was fantastic of course, I love Daft Punk, and they did as revolutionary of a job as Wendy Carlos did with the original soundtrack. Nice to see that Journey had a song in there too, just like the original movie.

Overall though, it was great. My problems with the movie were only a bit minor, and I'm really hoping that a 3rd one will make it into theaters, and maybe another ARG to go along with it.

Just some points....

- I saw Tron when I was 12, and I took my 12 year old with me to see Tron: Legacy. She said "its awesome!" Very Happy

- This movie raises as many questions as it answers

- The Visuals are stunning, but there was not enough Disc wars and Light Cycles to really satisfy the hardcore fans

- the 3D is very well done. Subtle in places, and the transitions between 2d and 3d are very well done. This is going to be one of those "Must Have Reference Quality" blu-rays

- The sound is incredible. Soundtrack was smoking.

- The Story was weak in places. there was an underlying theme of looking for something right in front of you, but then I realised that it was written by some of the pewople who wrote Lost and they made a career of hiding the meaning of their shows inside many layers of storytelling. Same thing applys here, on so many layers if you want to get allorgorical! Above all, this is a very good lesson to any programmer out there to make sure you can keep control of your programs! oh, and backups are essential!

- I came away feeling satisfied but wanting more. its been 28 years, I hope I dont have to wait till my children have children before I see another one.

- An animated series featuring the voice talents of Elijah Wood and Bruce Boxlightner is confirmed for 2011 on the Disney XD channel

- A Sequel is being discussed right now! Dont expect anything until after Joseph Kolinski finishes his remake of "The Black Hole" however (did you spot the poster in Sams bedroom? Its in the trailer hence not a spoiler)

It was a metal "The Black Hole" lunch box, not a poster. The director's name is Joseph KOSINSKI.

I'm sure some major storyline threads will be touched upon more in the animated series and in the possible sequel to Tron Legacy. I am confident that Tron will be back, and maybe even Flynn will return... fragmented data can be recompiled/de fragmenented afterall.

I too thought it was a poster, not a lunchbox. Guess I'll have to go watch it AGAIN Smile

Wonder how the animated series will be treated since it will be on a Disney kids channel.... I wouldn't expect too much de-rezzing going around.

ok Black Hole guys, did you notice on Young Sam's shelf is a toy V.I.N.C.E.N.T.? Check http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ay_H0p2YDk&feature=channel at 16 seconds, behind the white lightcycle. I never noticed it until I saw it in the theaters, but now that I look at this, I think it was bigger.. hmm
