I support the plant theory as at the beginning of 26 whoever's filming seems to be creepin, searching out windows for signs of the occupants and pausing at corners perhaps to peer around?
It's fitting that the tape draws slendy as the original mythos all portray him destroying any evidence of his existence.
The entries going on the internet seems to be a massive "oh fuck"

Alex is not a malicious person. Why sell it when it could potentially mean that slendy would get them too? I mean, it may not actually be the case that slendy lives/is attracted by that camera or anything..
But if I were Alex, I'd feel like I'd be selling something dangerous.. So I wouldn't sell it. I'd pretend like it never existed.
But if Alex thought it was dangerous, he most likely would have done to it what he planned to do to the tapes: destroy it. The fact that he seems surprised by it makes me think that he at least tried to leave it behind or something. Maybe at the house?

That is an extremely valid point. stuff like that makes me want to give up playing mh completely. :'(
Okay so the question now is.. Why did Alex give jay the tapes, knowing full well that jay would find his self filmed footage, and his footage of slenderman? I think that there are 3 possible answers..
A. Alex genuinely thought nothing would come of the tapes
B. Alex is inviting Jay to 'play', to fight against slenderman
C. Alex is a shitty friend and is using jay as a guinea Pig and skips town so slenderman has a "clean" canvass..

@ViolentViolet:
You're assuming that Alex was thinking rationally when he agreed to give the tapes to Jay. I had always assumed that he was not .

When Jay asked for the footage it threw a monkey wrench in Alex's plan of destroying the film. He probably would have burned the camera with the film if Jay didn't ask. Alex was in a hurry to leave town and probably figured Jay would realize that most of the film was useless as stock footage and Jay would just get rid of it. Also, Alex was probably still suffering from memory loss on top of actively trying to forget about it so he didn't fully realize how dangerous the film is. At the point when Jay asked for it, Alex probably only knew the film was bad and he had to destroy it before leaving town, getting rid of it would have seemed just as viable a solution. After that the camera was forgotten, packed away and buried in a closet.
Or, if Alex still remembers Jay as being one of the people who were "gone" he may have relented to Jay's pestering for the tapes so Jay could remember what happened and then maybe Jay would have a chance to avoid any more of the danger by being made aware of it.

I think it would have been Seth who planted the camera. In entry 22 he says that Seth and Seth's camera was gone.

That said "probably" like 4 times. I'm going to have to disagree.. Too many ambiguities to me, doesn't sound like MH. I don't think he would give them to jay totally dismissive of what's on them, no matter how much of a rush he seems to be in.
For Christs sake, he says "Burn them."
He 'hesitantly' gives them over to Jay.. But he still gives them to him.

Too much speculation on my part. But you make a point, those tapes are too dangerous to dismiss and hand off to someone else. So, did Alex give them to Jay because he felt he could handle it?

I can't help but think that Jay is the ark because he was given the tapes. He's an ark of evidence, if you will. It seems like alex was genuinely trying to flee, and I think he thought it was the cameras, not the tapes that held the danger.

That would actually make some kind of sense. It would also indicate the name "totheark" as a point of addressing: The videos are being sent "to the ark", i.e., so that Jay (as the "Ark") can learn more about what's happening to him.

I have to say, I agree. I posted something similar to this a little while back, but this would also explain why Alex gave Jay the tapes.

It might explain it. We're not sure if Alex knew that Jay would end up being involved.

Even if the camera held the danger and not the tapes, giving them to jay means that he's letting jay in.
I guess whether or not he meant to put jay in danger, he needed jay tO know..
Keep in mind that he does send jay that tape asking for help. Why is everyone in MH so damn cryptic?!

There is no evidence that Alex sent that tape. Actually, the evidence points more towards the tape being sent by someone else who has been keeping tabs on Jay's location. This would most likely be the Operator and/or ToTheArk.
