Initially, when the stories were first around, he had a face that looked different to each person. These days he doesn't usually have a face. Probably because there are a lot of vlogs now, and seeing someone with no face looks much creepier.

That's the beauty of the Slenderman Mythos-- there's no official version. Originally, yes, the story was that his face was different for each person, and the facelessness seen on the camera was glamor failure. Now, though, you have people who have been face-to-lack-of-face with Slendy, and have described him as such. Slenderman's appearance is disturbing (even without the tentacles) because he falls square into the uncanny valley. He looks like a normal person, but without a face, and the proportions of his limbs are off just enough that we get very, very uncomfortable.

I remember when it started someone created an image that showed a deformed-looking inhuman face; it was on the thread on Something Awful that made him. He had a circular, open, vacuum-like mouth and weird eyes. But all the old pictures of him do differ slightly in terms of his face, as some make it seem like a featureless plane of flesh and others show shadows that give the impression of unformed contours. The faceless thing seems to have taken hold the most.

i think it's a glamor failure. the MH guys saw slenderman in that field thing and just sort of said 'hey get that guy off the set' not 'HOLY SHIT THAT GUY DOESNT HAVE A FACE' while on the camera he clearly doesnt have a face..
