I was expecting Das Orange to make a cameo somewhere amid the objects at Flynn's. Not that big a disappointed in the grand scheme of things, but one of those 'would have been awesome' bits.

Just saw the movie again tonight (felt like I had to pay for it this time)
Anyway, Quorra does take a bite of something. She uses a fork. My guess it's some green beans, but I could be wrong.
As for what it really is..... maybe it's just like the energy from the drink, but in different form. It is Kevin's "pad" afterall.

omg..... the "food" is all just energy contructs made of code! Flynn can manipulate the source code of The Grid to a certain degree. Pure energy liquid he can trasform to look like food! >_<;
just like the ol' liquid energy in TRON (1982) and in the pools of said "liquid" energy all around Flynn safe house, ingesting it can re-energize a Program, Iso, and even a User in code form.

What I find funny is that I was not as put off by the food as much as the alcoholic drinks at the End of the Line. Do programs get drunk?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
But weirdest part of all was the bum program. Sam gives his dad's light cycle to a random homeless bum program wandering around looking drunk. Really? Seems like Clu's perfect society is whole lot like Downtown Detroit.

Sure, if the glowing liquid is effectively 'energy' the programs need, that like a virus, an infected glass could cause the equivalent of temporary drunkenness (a bug in the program that's eventually weeded out) or even addiction (enhances some features at loss of others?).

I just saw that as a stray/damaged/buggy program that hadn't yet been picked up by a recognizer. Perhaps ingested too much virus

Please don't give anyone any ideas for a Tron/Highlander mashup. (ala:
Conway's
Flynn's Game of Life )

I think one of the novelizations had a segment in it where Kevin is asking Sam how the food is, that he's been trying to re-create the proper textures and flavors. When asked, Sam makes some comment that instead of a fruity taste to the wine, he's getting a motor-oil vibe... something that Kevin takes as an encouraging sign that he's moving in the right direction.
To me, that implies that the food and drink is just a different means of re-energizing programs. In the original Tron, Flynn was recharged by the water just like the others were; he was digital at that point, so he 'ate' the same way they did. I feel that creating food was just Kevin's way of trying to stay 'human' while in the digital world.
Which, given the ending of the film, makes me wonder...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
How is Quorra going to feel about the whole digestive process? Something tells me that Flynn's experiments in food were not nearly enough to prepare her for our world...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It looks like Flynn was going to take an Iso into the real world and he want to make sure they were ready for the basic stuff..am sure he could of messed with her code so she would experience hunger and digesting in the grid. He was prepping her but also he need a friend while he was stuck.
