@JuiceBoxVomit: Please stop fighting. If you could please explain your hypothesis so we can all get along, that would be very great. We need to work as a team to get this done. All the fighting between you and GoingUp isn't helping anything. Just drop it and make a truce.

Okay, a few random thoughts none of which have been investigated too deeply...just seeing if it'll spark anything in anyone.

@Thisone
If three letters need to be eliminated from "hollywood film credits" to make 85%, perhaps it is "owl"? Maybe that's what "The bird is the word" is about.

Taking that slightly further, since that phrase is in French, we could look to the entry "French" which reads "I am fond of French movies about sick men dying".

So maybe the letters h,o,l,y,o,d,f,i,l,m,c,r,e,d,i,t,s form the name of a person who died from an illness 36 years ago? Possibly someone whose life was made into a movie posthumously (thus having nothing to do with the production)

I'm probably grasping at straws here but figured i'd post anyway.

french
french movie

has anyone seen the film 'cache' 2005? or 'stage fright' 1987?

does anyone else think the index looks like a hamburger?

does anyone think this collection of 'clues' can be pulled into a satisfactorily unified fiction with a semblance of cultural literacy?

christ. i can't believe i just now noticed this.

"chest hair", "hatshoe", and "notes" are missing.

...have been since october when the index changed to the circle.
you can still view them by manually typing them in......making these "components" of the page "selective in how they appear"....

someone want to shoot an email to him asking about this? (i've had an email out to him for a week that i don't want to risk losing an answer to.)

EDIT-
also, after reading through some old WoC tweets, i finally understood the "obvious clue" juiceboxvomit received a few pages back. (it totally went right over my head at the time)
i have no idea what the lantern etc means, but the line next to it "i think one is pretending their intentions are honest" is nearly a direct quote from a WoC tweet from November of 2009:

Quote:
WoC:
Carl, let me put this bluntly. You now have two neighbours watching you. I don't know if his intentions are honest. I'll watch him too

...so i think we're supposed to be focusing on looking for the other watcher.

So there's some stuff. Have at it!!!

Mythology
Hermes and Argus

I am unable to bring my suspicions into an orderly presentation but I'll proffer these hypotheses in order that you might:
Argus was a watcher sometimes with 100 eyes (many eyes, all eyes, panoptes)
Argus watched Io, a nymph in Heifer form (woman, feet, hoof; wot?)
Argus is killed while sleeping by Hermes (wearerofthePetasos and talaria)

if you think this might be at all relevant, then please also check out the entry on Aeschylus' Oresteia on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oresteia

didn't someone get called eumenoid? (resembling a kind one)?

as psychopomp did Hermes cross the stickstream river styx?

tanning
hides

could tanning refer to the conversion of skins to leather?

i was following a serial killer sort of analysis on hatshoe when i thought of that: tanning in a weird ed gein sort of way. cartoon face like buffalo bill skins.

Damn, well I'm glad somebody noticed this. My last email to him was less than compelling so I'll shoot one out about the pages.

@Knucklehead Interesting stuff, I'll have to read over all that mythology stuff later. That tanning hides/serial killer is an interesting story line angle.

Chest hair
re chi shat

i'm close to resigning.

anagram of chest hair=re chi shat
means nothing until you look at the page
and there it REfers to a CHIropteran that SHAT

it's all too much and not enough. do any of you really believe that we're getting any closer to any thing resembling a return on our invested time?

i'm an amateur astronomer (heavy accent on the amateur) and i've been running the dates in 'casualties' through stellarium. results later if i don't quit before i'm through.

Chest Hair
Star Chi He

technically, the traditional designation for it would be star Chi Her as in chi herculis; or the greek alphabetically in order of magnitude--> alpha =brightest, beta =next brightest, gamma =next to next brightest, etc., to Chi. the Only reason i even chose to post it is, the star chi herculis is also designated flamsteed 1 in Hercules so i'm led to "the first labor of Hercules" the Nemean Lion.

really, really, i'm about to quit . . .

@knucklehead
back in september when WoC was sick, I tweeted "hope to have you feeling better soon, friend" to which he replied "thankings, eumenoid". so that's where you remember that from.
i read through that wikipedia article...very interesting. the parallels between hs and greek mythology are numerous and undeniable. a few of us started on that train of thought a few months back but it naturally evolved into the astrology angle, which we now know is "not completely wrong", for what that's worth.
the problem is in determining whether the correlations to greek mythos play an actual part in all this, or if it's passive (the way many movies/books resemble them thematically). if you figure that out, i would never stop high fiving you.
as for resigning, i felt the same way when i started. when you first discover hs, it's very exciting but it is extreeeeeeeemely slow paced. spending too much time on it will drive you absolutely insane because answers just don't come. for me, it's less of a game you play and more of something that's always in the back of your mind. (but that's just me. it's the only way i can keep my sanity through all this)
personally, i hope you stick around. your "outside the box" thinking is extremely helpful...i don't think any of us even considered doing anything with the dates in "casualties". please let us know if you find anything with that.
as far as getting a return on time invested...there's no way. haha. but i play a lot of video games and technically, i've never received anything for completing them either, other than the satisfaction of seeing them through. (once again, this is just me holding onto my sanity)

Mercury's behind the sun. At the tip of the Balance of Libra
Jupiter's in Capricorn (half goat half sea serpent)
Venus and Saturn are in Virgo the Virgin
Mars is in Cancer the Crab

dammit jim, i'm an astronomer, not an astrologer!

this all means nothing to me.

I came to hatshoe through youtube after "N" and immediately thought there was a planetary angle to the video titles. Diespiter=Jupiter, flavian=saturn (tenuous link but i thought it was solid at the time), first second third quadrant = mercury, venus, earth, mars, again due to a faulty reasoning on my part. which required making N = uranus. but i'm dubious about the whole thing now.
