 		[SPEC]Glassing of Reach
OK, so we all know that from the wav files, Reach has just been glassed by the Covenant and that is what we are basing all of our timeline speculation upon. However - and correct me if I'm wrong as I'm at work without my Halo novels - I seem to recall that after Reach was glassed there was a large-scale ONI cover-up of the event and most people didn't find out that it had happened for some time after the fact.

I guess it doesn't really change things much, but it's something to keep in mind - Reach might have been glassed a while back, and the news has only just been leaked to the residents of Earth.

Can someone who has the novels handy check this for me? Otherwise I'll check it myself this evening when I get home from work.

 		Remember that the axon sounds could have been recorded at anytime. It seems that time travel is involved somewhat in the storyline.

 		All we know is that as of september 4th UNSC knew about the glassing of reach but they were not telling anyone. My spec is that unless it was leaked, the UNSC would keep it quiet as long as they could. However, if they got word that the Covenant was on their way (which they would not get untill after Sep. 13*), they may make the glassing public in prep for the far worse news they would have to release.

* My original time table was based on the fact that MC didn't get to halo untill sep. 19th. I didn't pay attention to the dates and the time travel caused by the forerunner crystal. This would mean that MC could feasibly be back to earth as soon as sep. 15th.

Edit: now that I look back at it. It seems that the time anomly occured before the AJs jump into the forerunner induced slipspace bubble. Anyone know whats going on here? I know Haysley found an error in cortana's time logs but was this cortana's fault or some time warp? My only thought is that when the PoA jumped to halo it took them alot longer in slip space then it did in real space. Perhaps the 19 day trip from reach to halo only took a few days? I don't want to hijack this thread but given that the events of the .wavs take place shortly after the fall of reach, it is important for us to develop a timeline that puts MC back on earth.

 		Yeah, but Reach was glassed on August 30, 2552.

Short version, it's some sort of "time warp." For example (from the post):

 		Actually, from First Strike, we know that Reach was only partially glassed. But I won't go any farther, lest I ruin the book for someone who wants to read it, which I recommend, if only for the universe's WORST orbital drop EVER. "This is nothing. Last time I made an orbital drop, I landed before the dropship."
