[META] Suggestions for some things to try on a live call... As it looks like the chances of me getting a live call are slim to none (Far too many London Axon-hunters already), I'll throw this out for someone else to try.
First thing to try, giving your name and not your rank. When Mel asks for it (The Rank, that is), say it is "Classified" and that you cannot dissemenate that information on an unsecured line. If she pushes for something to put down, tell her that "for now" she can put you down as a "Specialist". That should sow some "ONI" seeds...
As for the second thing to try, has anyone tried going "Drill Seargeant" on her? As in "What is your mission, soldier!?" "Sound off like you mean it, soldier" and the like. Really go into the barking orders just as a drill seargeant would do.
Third, give her a pretty "name" as your name, and if she asks what it means, tell her it means "Truth".
Fourth, tell her there is an "Enemy" virus known to masquerade as the SPDR, version <whatever>.77 (The version number the Flea's reporting as), and it should be sandboxed or killed on sight.
Fifth, ask her why she's keeping the SPDR around if she has assumed it's functions (Note, probably not a good idea to combine with 4)
Sixth, ask her to review the damage logs, both in the Reconstruction archive and the SPDR's logs, to compare for inconsistencies (Trying to get her to see the "Seek/Behold/Reveal" is new, and not original mission data)
I have some other spec, but I'll add that to a seperate thread.
Comments, anyone?

Personally I think this is premature. We simply don't know enough about the Pious Flea to eliminate it yet. Yes, it's affecting Melissa's behaviour and we assume that is bad, but we don't know that for certain yet. We suspect it, but we don't know for sure.

Then perhaps "Killed" is too strong, but I think the Flea should be isolated (sandboxed) so it cannot spread it's influence any further until that influence is understood.

I don't know if that's a good idea either. To be honest, the interactions between these three characters is what is driving the game. If we'd locked up the Flea a month ago, we would not have seen its contact and new friendship with the Sleeping Princess. We can't learn anything more about it unless we can observe its behaviour; we can't observe its behaviour unless it is free to act on its own.
I do agree that something needs to be done about the Flea, but I still think we are not yet at a point where we know what must be done. We still don't know who is on our side (as tempting as it is to blindly trust the Sleeping Princess and distrust the Flea).

By "Sandboxed", I meant like (For instance) a Java app.
Java apps run inside a sandbox. It means their interactions with a system are limited, so they can only do so much. Beyond that, they are limited. So you can see how it runs, and what it intends to do, and you can choose wether to allow that or not.
I have an uneasy feeling about the "Truth" that the Flea is seeking, and just what it intends to do with it when it has it. "Reveal" to whom? His "Mission Statement" is so ambigous it could mean anything (As the Princess has pointed out). I know we're supposed to use logic and the like, but while I can't find anything to back up my gut feeling, it doesn't make me feel any better about it.
And of course, these are all optional at the moment. No-one's ordering anyone to say anything. I just wanted to know what people thought.
please don't hurt me...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not jumping down your throat. The whole point of this thing is to debate, so that's what I'm doing. I'm not trying to put down your idea, just expressing my own opinion.
I think your idea is valid, I'm just a little uneasy about intervening just yet (if it is even possible to do so, which is in and of itself an assumption). If we can pull it off, great. I'm just trying to stay cautious.

who knows if there will be more crew recruitment, but has anyone tried to give Melissa a name of someone we know was on the crew manifest for Apocolypso? I have my knife and fork ready for a heaping yummy trout if this idea deserves it.

if memphis gets a 2nd live call, I will definitely try it. I met a fellow memphis axon hunter for lunch this week and he answered the live call. If it does go again, i got this one!

I said that I heard that Captain Greene was dead. At that point, she started "breaking down" into her "I love bees" mantra.
Important note: Captain Greene's death is another trigger for Melissa's breakdown.
Okay, here's something to consider. Thanks to Trynian we now know that Melissa knows that Captain Greene is dead. What she doesn't know (and technically neither do we, but c'mon now) is that Greene was killed in a coverup conspiracy. Recall from Melissa's memory in the SP's 8/13 email that Melissa says to McKaskill:
Melissa wrote:
You're my crew, and no one is going to touch my crew without going through me. I've got your back, McKaskill.
So what if someone told Melissa that Greene was murdered and that someone is out to murder McKaskill as well? Tell her to listen to the transmissions she is receiving and verify for herself that McKaskill is in dire trouble. Maybe even suggest that Greene was murdered and McKaskill is in trouble because he wasn't able to get through to his "old man" contact... Do you think this would spur her to action? Perhaps she might even try to get us to help? What might happen?

I wonder what would happen if someone said they were the crew memeber who released the princess. She knows who did it now (sorry for not posting the name, it's too early for me), and she might get pissed off and try to use "shockingly excessive force" on one of us....
