I think Season 2 is a logical progression from Season 1, with the makers having clearly learned quite a bit since entry 1.

While it's true that MH hasn't been genuinely terrifying for me since Entry 23 or so, I think we're finally at a point where we're going to start getting some answers and I'd much rather have the season start off on that note than like part 1 did (with 13 entries of "find the slenderman").

Season 2 'feels' different than Season 1, yet kind of the same.

During both seasons we wonder what the hell is going on, yet in Season 1 we're struggling to connect the dots between Masky, Slendy, TTA, Jay, Alex, etc. In Season 2 we're trying to figure out the connection between Jay and Jessica while attempting to piece together what's happened to Jay. Season 2 is more in-your-face about the plot while not being too forward.

I'm sure I explained that poorly, but it makes sense in my head.

TL;DR: Both seasons have a similar atmosphere, but Season 1 has many more threads. In contrast, Season 2's plot is more 'concentrated,' with more explicit plot progression as opposed to Season 1's 'figure it out yourself.'

Hahaha, Aerokinetic, I read the text on your icon at first as "Mumble Hornets".

Anyways, I voted "wtf is this" because really, we can't compare them just yet. Parts of season I sucked. For whole long chunks of season I, fans bitched on and on about filler and slow pacing and blah blah blah... some of it thoughtful legitimate critique, some of it impatience. This is just more of the same. I don't think we can really compare season II so far to season I as a whole, because we don't have the big picture now.

As for me personally, I'm less excited about MH these days than I used to be. However, examining my reasons, it's not because the quality has gone down. On the contrary, I'm impressed so far by the choices they've made for season II. My lower heartrate is just because the shine of newness has worn off. I find myself more patient for season II episodes, and less prone to pissing myself every time there's something skinny and black in the background, hur hur. I'm enjoying the ride for what it is this time around, rather than stressing and pining about when a new entry is going to come out! It's kinda nice.

I admit, Im not the most patient fellow, and in the end it's not my project nor is it meant to appeal to me specifically. That said, I have to say so far Im disappointing in this season. It's all build up and (not to talk down on the creators) I can't imagine the reveal being worth the wait.

Season 1 needed immediate hooks to get an audience built, and now they are using the fanbase they have to allow for leeway this season, it makes sense but if within the next entry or two if they don't pull out some of the creep/suspense factor Season 1 had, then Im afraid interest will seriously start to wane.

Thinking about it, the problem may be the atmosphere. Season 1 felt depressing, somewhat hopeless. He couldn't get away, couldn't protect himself, couldn't even control himself! It was dark and dreary and lent everything that happened a sinister or dark suspenseful quality. The new season is brightly lit, is a cold drop into the situation (memory loss so no context), and each entry has only one dimension (excepting the slender entry) to explore for the audience.

TL;DR:Not digging it, needs more grimdark. Willing to wait two or so more entry's for interest.

I think that with the pacing that they're doing with this season, they're probably aiming for another 26 entries?

I don't know, I'm about in the same boat as JKat! I like the series and am happy to see where they go with it. I don't really feel the need to sit on the forum and write walls of text any more, because I'm content to follow along, I suppose. I think that if they made an element or two quasi-interactive, there would be more reason to fangirl and speculate, but a lot of the things being said around here are repetitions from Part I. Maybe it's that there has been a curve to the amount of speculating that can go on, and that because we have basically come to an uneasy consensus about what is happening, it's become less necessary for oldbies to continue to post?

Maybe what would need to happen to get people to feel like something really is happening, is to turn some of the speculation on it's head? Like we really need more questions... but I think that if they manage to cinch together some of the loose threads at the same time, it could be a really big "WOAH!" moment.

I dunno! I'm not on the edge of my seat about this season, but I'm still enjoying it!

But I liked that.
I do agree that getting answers would be great, never meant anything otherwise, but I still say mood and pacing is a departure from what drew me to the series in the first place. Not sure why this warranted the violent backlash for saying so, (not to myself in particular) that its gotten in the thread. MH is serious business?

A important thing to remember is that Marble Hornets Season 1's first half was very different to it's second. In the first half we had Jay looking through the tapes and us spotting Slendy. In the second half, Jay became actively involved, and we were introduced to a new character, Masky. The majority of the second half was all about Jay and the conflicts begining to focus around him.

Season 2 could change anytime and really shake things up. I quite like the pace thus far, and can't wait to find out more about Jessica and the like. Perhaps Season 2 will make a turn soon, and go in new exciting directio.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If you read Troy's blog on blogspot his latest post actually talks about what they want to do with Jay's character in this season, and he acknowledges exactly what you've said - that Jay was not much more than the vehicle for the camera in Season 1, and he wants to develop him in Season 2.

Obviously there's something happening, so I disagree with this thread title. But, it's just really slo-o-o-o-o-w.. I understand this patient story telling technique could be used to create suspense on a subconscious level, but I'm not really feeling the anticipation here. I don't feel creeped out as I was in Season 1 (the first half over the second half).

And that's what attracted me to Marble Hornets. I was a bit frightened, but entertained, and definitely lured in the same way Hitchcock or Shyamalan pace their films (coming from me, that's one big compliment). In Season 2? I'm getting a wee bit bored and find myself looking at their execution techniques (the use of wide angle lens, the cutting/editing, the effects) than any story, content, etc. which is something the audience shouldn't do. I'm more interested in the emotions involved, the story, the mood.

They need to amp it up soon. Entry#29 has easily been the best of Season 2 so far. And J, please acknowledge Slendy some. He's appeared in more videos (not to mention is more popular than anyone else in the series) than any other character yet I only really remember J pointing out Slendy in Season 1 when Alex runs away or becomes frightened, feeling "watched" or "followed". Also, I feel Slendy has become a cheap way to end videos in a "cliffhanger"; reminds me of when DC Comics end some issues with a surprise appearance by the Joker just because he's the fan favourite. A cheap pop.

Jay does acknowledge the Operator, though, every time he uploads a video about him. Just the act of editing it in and showing it to us is acknowledging his presence. I think that he gives us more credit (more or less) that he doesn't freeze-frame over the Operator-sighting portions. I mean, hell, the Operator manages to do that for himself with the video distortion.

Thank you, I'm glad to see someone shares my feelings. When the story doesn't grab me enough I start indulging in way too much meta stuff, and then the story is blown for me.

They're still setting the season up.

Things will start getting crazy again once TTA starts posting responses.

I think that if you're having that problem, maybe the best thing would be to stop lurking around MH for a couple of months, then come back and watch a few episodes at once. Smile Might help you to feel more engaged when you can watch it all together!
