The Dark Knight Rises When does the ARG start? As most of you guys may know already, Christopher Nolen announced the offical title of Batman 3 today, The Dark Knight Rises, so just like the Dark Knight viral that went around, I was wondering when we could see The Dark Knight Rises viral around...Any Ideas or thoughts?
Sound off on the new film!
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The Riddler is not the new vilian
Moved from Super 8, as it has absolutely nothing to do with that film - E

Snap. Tacular.
I'll keep my eyes peeled. I've loved Batman since I was a kid, so I'd be all over an ARG like this.

what about a fan based one? If clear from the start it was fan fiction, the lawyers wouldn't be interested would they? I'm currently addicted to lego games on console, and had come up with some ideas!

If a professional enough job was done, you'd probably find the producers just threw some money at it when the time was right to promote the movie. After all, why start a while new game if there's one in progress with a loyal fanbase if you can work some cannon into it?

Lawyers would definitely be interested since it would be using the studio's intellectual property. And you're not talking small players here: Time Warner, Warner Bros. and DC Comics are extremely possessive of their IP.
It doesn't matter if the "fan fiction" ends up being incorrect... the storyline doesn't matter. The characters do. Use the word "Batman" once and they have every right to come down on you like an anvil.
Considering the success of the WSS campaign, I would not be surprised if 42E is given this project when the time is right.
My guess: early to mid next year we'll start seeing stuff.

Actually, fan fiction - as long as no profit is drawn from it - is legally protected by copyright law. In other words, as long as you don't make money from it and it's very clearly fan fiction, you can do what you like.
I forget the exact wording, but I've crossed this bridge before; I used to write a Dawson's Creek fan fiction and it came up - with Warner, actually - and I was told it was no problem as soon as I proved I made no profit from the site.

Unfortunately, not that clear cut, at least in the States. Issues are resolved on a case by case basis. It really depends on the copyright/trademark holder and whether or not they wish to pursue a law suit. Disney, for instance, is famous for being absolutely vehement about protecting their products. Lucas was, but has loosened up a bit. Anyway...

make sure you sign up at 42E if they're still taking email addresses, they had a spot on their site a while ago for people to sign up to get the info when things started.

I'm so doing this. I was nearly in tears when I found out that I had missed the majority of the WhySoSerious run, really, you won't find a bigger Batman fan than me, and to see that there was an ARG (which is another love of mine) of it, that was completely amazing happening right under my nose, ugh, it was horrible.
So yes, I cannot wait to see some Dark Knight Rises viral-ing.

I've signed up with 42 as well. I followed Why So Serious from afar, but if they do one for Dark Knight Rises, I want to be involved from the start
