Wait.

You mean there were people on SN who seriously, for reals, thought that the whole Paragon thing wasn't an ARG?

I prescribe large doses of outside and fresh air all round.

OUTSIDE? Are you mad? There's sunlight there! Are you trying to kill these poor people?

Fucking vampires, how do they work?

just feed them garlic, they'll go away Very Happy

Jon here.

As I am trying to put the mistakes of the EMH incident behind, I wanted to point out that the choice of "HYBRID" as the password was made by The Doctor and not myself. In his own words we were going to use "phrases from every major series".

We did not know that the forum we were running was so lacking in humor, perspective, and the ability to identify an ARG. I'm actually appreciative of Unforum for understanding this better than half of our members.

Well bro, we EMH following bros are not as hostile as some make us out to be.

If this would have happened here, we'd be pumped.

I agree, I thought it would have made a great ARG tbh. I think some people get too paranoid about these things which ruins the concept BUT it's also understandable that they'd be scared and upset about it with it happening out of the blue.

Hell, the Hybrids on here are (for the most part) some of the laid back people I've met. XD

But yeah, it's a shame. This really did look like a neat idea for an ARG. Not a blog, not a vlog. It was original.

@ Didz: To be honest, look at the amount of people who got packages, phone calls and emails out of the blue that were trailheads. ARG ground = whatever's weird is intentional.

It's different when Mod's/Admin's are involved though.

As for IRL, I was on a message board with thousands if not ten thousands of people, and it got hacked recently, supposedly by one of the more prominent members even. The thing was re-built and nobody made a fuzz about it. The hacker (an unknown) even came out later on towards a friend of mine, and nobody pressed charges. Another buddy of mine was suspected a long time, it was weird, but everybody got over it. If those things happen (and this was TOTALLY out of the blue), it's a lot less a chore than people think. I had the impression two amazing threads of mine were lost, but an admin gratefully restored them and that was that.

I guess the mods being involved was what scared people. That the mods and admins acted as if they didn't know what was happening.

Yah, but Vivi or thatotherguy were oblivious to the game, which caused them to work on re-gaining control over the forum and the situation. I can kinda see why they're pissed. If I did a secret Halloween party for my girlfriend, and during it I'd act as if I'd have no idea what was going on, she's SEVERELY be pissed at me for scaring the shit out of her.
The guests of that party, however, have to admittedly figure out it is what it is - a Halloween party. Once the "I am Slenderslave and you are dumb" thing dropped, the probability of it being a real Slenderslavebro or somebody thinking he could be a Slenderslavebro were close to 0.001%. The possibility of a real hacker was also out of question if you ask me, the video showed the guy had insider info.

I know what you mean. I agree with you totally.

We're cool now, Jon. I also want to put the whole incident with you and EMH out of the way as well.

Sad that the ARG didn't played out like you wanted it, because I'm not going to lie to you, I thought it would be fun for the gang from both forums to join forces and solve the Paragon mystery.

Exactly what I thought. All the bickering aside, we're not here to be pissed at each other but to make amends and do what we do best: be geeks and knit scarfs to bring as gifts to our puppetmasters*. Twisted Evil Unforum is in no way mad at anybody as long as people are nice to us.

*(and of course celebrate the greatness that is ARGing bringing people like Didz and me together in a fight for truth and entertainment)

Sorry it didn't work out, Jon. If it's any consolation, this really did look like it would've been a lot of fun ^^;

Also glad to see you're trying to put the EMH thing behind you. Everyone should. (+Approval for Jon)

If we get an ARG like this again in the near future, we better brace ourselves and use our creative minds to work!

And to TNC: I can't blame you, I was bummed that it ended so early.

Unfortunately, all I think that has resulted from this is a few hurt feeling, and a new medium for people to mimic. Though done well, a forum hacking could be interesting, would need to be a preexisting forum though, or a faked one, to work...
