Hm. Couldn't you get a better look by using Dye rather than paints?

Also try replacing the LEDs used for the lights?

As is looks OK, but as you said it doesn't look that great (I can tell ti got painted from the shots.)

Still, nice mod.

I'm not sure how plastic dies work, whether it would seep into the black or if simple taping would be enough. However I found out about vinyl and plastic dies while looking up stuff about alphasmarts. Reason dying would work better is the stuff soaks into the plastic rather than sits on top.
