Dray, I love your "Page Rapes". They make me smile/stare in wonder that you can write that much and not do too much repeating of yourself.

Also, I checked out working on the wiki a few days ago...but it kinda needs work all around and I had no idea where to start. But with a group of us I'm sure we could cover some ground.

Ugh, how about this for a summary: I *agree* trouts are annoying, but what I was meaning was that in the great scheme of things do they distract us from finding the useful information the threads can provide? I related them to meta and chit chat because those things ALSO do not distract us from finding useful information, therefore I was equating something to things which I feel are NOT bad. Trouts are unfortunate, but at the end of the day, getting enraged because of them, and giving lengthy posts telling trouters off doesn't end the problem of trouting. They will still happen.

Politely mentioning this to a person, and then quickly moving on is best. However we cannot possible stop the occurrence of trouts altogether.
But yeah, I'm pure evil, so obviously everything I said was an attack done on your characters with malice. It really, really wasn't. I'm sorry for offending you but my attention was to let off steam in my very first post, and my second was a gathering of thoughts, starting with my frustrations but ultimately deciding that really our problems aren't all that bad. We still get things done.

I think that getting the wiki up to date, as Mantis' is spearheading that, will definitely help. I have a feeling that once that is (for the most part) done, we'll get our collective panties out of their bunches about trouting and people messing around in every single thread.

In the meantime, though, I still think that it's important to get on the soap box for what I think will help the community. I'd like to see people linking newbies and trouters to the original material if they're goint to call trout or the proper thread if they're way off topic, though that's up to the individual posters, I suppose!

I agree...but the wiki doesn't even acknowledge the past 5 or so entries if I remember correctly. We got a ton of work to do there.

And what if we've got the chicken and the egg the wrong way around? Maybe Masky didn't become Masky because of contact with Slender Man: maybe Slender Man was summoned as a result of something Masky was doing. Like Masky is Faust and Slendy is his Mephistopheles.

Huh, there is that! It would tie in with peoples thoughts that Masky is some kind of cultist/obsessed fella... though it feels like a very cliche road to follow, and takes away from the Operator's unknown, unknowable origin and motives.

True... but only if the Operator was what Masky was expecting to make contact with. Maybe Masky's activities revolve around him trying to observe Slendy and work out what the fuck he is. Or perhaps he's just trying to survive this fucked up situation he's created by dabbling in things he thought he understood but didn't.

Perhaps whatever Masky did to unleash Slendy on the world (or at least the MH shoot) was supposed to lead Masky to the Ark (yes, I'm a Masky = TTA believer, and a Tim = Masky believer with it). It didn't; it just unleashed this fucked up faceless thing which warps people's minds and saps their bodies. In this case, Masky might believe that Slendy might still be a clue as to where the Ark is - perhaps as a sort of really strange guide which will lead Masky there if he feeds enough Jays to it, or perhaps its behaviour and the side-effects it causes are meant to be clues of some kind.

The latter case might explain Masky's interest in Jay: Jay had some sort of contact with Slender Man at the time of the Marble Hornets shoot, as did most of the other participants (remember how Alex said "Jay's gone..."?). That changed him, as it changed everyone else the Operator had managed to touch, but he doesn't remember it - but the fact that he's been contaminated means Masky is interested in him, as he would be in any MH veteran - it's just that Jay is the one who started posting videos, and who tracked down Tim (whereas he'd either lost contact with the others or used them up in his hunt for the Ark). Masky's plan is to have Jay get regular, deep, hard mind-fuckings from the Operator, in the hope that the behaviour Jay exhibits as a result will lead Masky to the Ark.

Of course, Masky might be incorrect. Maybe there is no Ark, and Masky has been fooled by the crazed theories of dabblers before him. Maybe all there is is the Operator and his own unguessable motives and needs, and Masky's activities are just giving Slendy more power and access to the world without any real benefit.

I like how this theory potentially fits with Entry #23! I've been watching it because apparently, I might be the guy updating it on the wiki, and if the whole masky-is-an-Operator-cultist plot pans out like the post above me, then the mask left behind in 23 might be baiting a hook.

Jay comes to the house and there's clearly Operator activity going on, but Jay continues to avoid him, so Tim knocks Jay out, puts him in a closet, and the takes off his mask, revealing himself suddenly to the Operator. The Operator, seeing two people downstairs (or whatever) come running. Jay leaves his closet just as Tim enters his, leaving Jay to the Operator, who gets Jay and puts him in the poolhouse basement to do whatever it is the Operator does.

Yes, that's mostly my fault. Time to rectify that, eh?

This sounds like it relies on the thought that the ark existed before the Operator showed up, which makes me wonder, what is the ark a safehaven from, if it's not the Operator himself? Why would Masky seek it before the Operator came into being, if it was a safehaven from the creature that he released? That point weakens the theory, I think, though mostly because I feel that if the ark is a physical place or state of being, it must be to ward away the Operator himself, not for some other reason.

Well now that I'm up and glued to the computer (THANKS TWITTER!!!!! not) I guess I'll share what is probably a stranger connection that I simply can't seem to get away from. It's been widely noticed, of course, that Jessica's (and perhaps J's) eyes appear a lot darker and more sullen, and that this may be a factor of something being Seriously Wrong. This, to my eyes, is symptomatic of this connection.

It involves water. Or more specifically the lack thereof.

What anvil is constantly being dropped when Tim appears? He's drinking water.

Water bottles all over Brian's old house.

"Impurity:" Close-up on falling rain.

So on a whim I decided to go wikipedia-slumming and found the article on dehydration. One paragraph listed the symptoms of dehydration as follows:
irritability
loss of sleep
loss of memory
headaches
seizures
sunken eyes
...

It then goes on to say that the effects of dehydration also occur during states of hypovolemia... blood loss.

I know the connections seem tenuous, and it really seems silly even to me sometimes but I can't help but suspect that there's something to it.
(/embarrassingly brutal honesty)

That makes me think of the entry Alex woke up with blood on his head and TTA's response "bleedmore". And someone found out yama could = blade Surprised

Now that you mention it, that's fairly sound. Now I'm going to be looking out for water to combat Slendy's fire in the entries

"Ark" can also be a repository where something sacred is kept, though - think of the Ark of the Covenant.

One of the most creepiest things I have ever seen and heard was 1:13 where she says "I don't know how I got here, you're the only person I've seen in this hotel other than the staff and we have joining rooms"

Sent chills up my spine, just Jessica talking with that weird effect creeps me out.

Wish I knew what it was.
