I'm glad to see that one word could have such an affect on one's "reputation" on the board.

it's not a word, it's the action that gives the reputation...

lurking is reading without partaking...
trolling is actively partaking purposely trying to p!ss people off. So you can see the difference Smile

thanx, thebruce... I really have wondered about that. Sorry to all for asking this question and bringing off topic a bit.
(I wish we had a cool troll emoticon!)

I was almost certain that the guy McKaskill was talking to was Herzog, aka "Cranky Old Man". Both are "old guys", both lack fashion sense, and both are ONI. The only bug in this interpretation is that Herzog was already on Earth when Apocalypso crashed back into orbit, which tangles the timelines. *sigh* So now I've gotta score it as a "possible".

As far as Jersey's Dad being dead, I don't get that vibe. I think he's just tied down on a classified project far from home.

-- Steve notes that lots of marriages were destroyed during WW2 by exactly the same stresses that the Morellis are under.

So, at this point, all I got is a couple theories, in two flavors:
(spec): Simon is Jersey's biological father. That could be the meaning behind the line "Yeah, your father hates worrying about money. You're more like Simon that way."

I'm glad my spec didn't turn out to be totally fruitless. You bring up an excellent point.

Do we know the timing of Jason Morelli's military assignment vs. Jersey's birth? If Simon is Jersey's DNA donor then it would follow that Bonita had been having the affair since before he was born. Jersey, apparently, knew his father (do we know this for SURE?) which indicates that Jason couldn't have been away all that time.

So:

Is it possible that Jason knows about the affair?

Why is Bonita still married to Jason if she's been with Simon for the past 17-21 years(how old is Jersey?)?

What caused Bonita to hide Jersey's true father from him for his entire life, yet still carry on the affair in Jason Morelli's absence?

Ahh, so many questions...

edit: spelling and clarity

You could still be right. It's pretty clear that, whoever McKaskill's "old man" was, he is no longer on the ship by the time Melissa catches McKaskill trying to send him a message. Otherwise, why the heck would McKaskill be sending anything off the ship by slipstream packet? Herzog could've been and left long before the Apocalypso crashed. And he is an "old guy," even if he's not as old as his Cranky Old Man voice makes it appear.

In standish.wav, Herzog tells the Lieutenant that he learned about the artifact from Captain Greene herself, which means it was after the ship returned to Earth. So if he is McKaskill's Old Man, he must have left the Apocalypso before the artifact was taken aboard, but told McKaskill to contact him if anything interested happened. Like finding a new piece of technology capable of crippling an entire solar system's C&C channels.

Let's see. Herzog is definitely behind the Cranky Old Man -- because he is the Cranky Old Man -- and he's essentially behind Rani's poking around as well. Now, he might be the one who tried to coopt McKaskill, too, which doesn't seem terribly out of character for him. He certainly seems interested in learning the truth by any means necessary...

Idea

Umm...Has anyone already speculated that Herzog could be the one that planted the Pious Flea/Seeker in Melissa in the first place, when he was aboard the Apocalypso? (Now that we've established that the Pious Flea did not come aboard on the artifact, since -- according to artifact.wav -- Melissa was acting up before the artifact was taken aboard.)

(I really want to hear those missing recipe3 clips now.)

Good. I'll go talk about it over there, and politely return this thread to the "Jersey's dad" discussion where it belongs. Mr. Green

Hey, you're also the one who posted that thing about the Sleeping Princess singing from "Stormy Weather" just as I was thinking the same thing. Get out of my mind! (Or at least take off your shoes.)
