Decrypted the last message sent to the phone.

It reads :

Preliminary mail has been sent to Eric.

For those who want a deck file to load in cryptool, put this into a text file :

I got the same decryption, Minz. But the cipher does not seem to work for the other messages. Anyone else getting the same problem?

The other messages probably used another ordering of the cards.
I'm guessing it is something like rotate the deck by x cards or swap some cards. some simple rule that alters the deck after each message...
But i will first get some sleep before I continue looking into decrypting these messages. (1:15 AM here xD)

Got it! Will update as soon as I have finished decrypting everything.
Cryptool is your friend xD
Just use cryptools manual analysis function with the key you used for the message before. You will have to replace 53 -> A and 54 -> B before loading the newly generated key.
Ill look for a better description or a simpler algorithm to achieve the same after I finish this.

Oh and Joker-option is always to front.

Nice one Minz, i'm working on rotating the deck numbers in cryptool as we speak, about two thirds the way in.

Yes, I get: 11, 20, 54, 1

I believe our deck is set and that these 4 other numbers are what we need for the rest of the "Solitaire" decryption.
DO NOT RESHUFFLE! Use the KEY numbers given.

Although the room number is 201 I do not believe it makes a difference.

This Deck has 54 cards and no jokers. Most decks have 52 and I have yet to look and find the 2 cards duplicated.

The card codes come from Bruce Schneier.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Schneier
Card ciphers include:* Solitaire* Phelix * Helix

I see someone else has been reading "Cryptonomicon" Very Happy

@ Greystone, the deck has 52 cards and 2 jokers, namely Aj and Bj in Erics mail. Edit : Aces are 1h, 1c, 1d and 1s Wink

Ok, time for a little explanation :
I didn't figure out the rotating algorithm (yet), therefore I let Cryptool do some educated guessing based on the key for the previous respective message.
Analysis -> Symmetric encryption(classic) -> Manual Analysis -> Solitaire
Here you load the deck with which you decrypted the first message and select the joker position to go to the front.
You then take the newly calculated initial deck and replace the 53 with A and 54 with B in your textfile, sou you can load it again for the next message. Those 2 are your jokers.

And to decrypt you basically only hit generate keystream and decrypt after doing the above.

Attachment contains all decrypted + encypted + formated messages and the respective keys for your convenience.

I correct myself looking at this odd deck.
We have cards Bj and Aj
I assume these to be Jokers but even odder I find no ACEs!!! Damn the Aces are listed as 1. Never mind.

Well played Minz, i was still some way behind you there Smile

Question is, now we have the info, what does that mean for Jared. Certainly looks dodgy, and do we let him know Smile
