I ran both videos (the file and their video of them watching it) with the intro synced up, thinking there might be something important with the child!dialogue and the hidden vid they should have been watching, but it doesn't match up at all in context.

The entire visual of them staring at a black screen, talking about caves and treasures, is very evocative of Candle Cove. I think the original pasta also had the "show" airing in the '70s, and it's possible the timeframe corresponds to that of the original Corenthal children. OTOH if Candle Cove was indeed "more than just a TV show," it could have manifested at different times to many different children over the years. There were also, of course, similarities to CC in the story Vincent told the Doctor about the pervy priest. But at that time I'd been given the impression that the priest was someone Slender Man had killed for touching his property, and that CC was just a throwaway reference to indicate how the priest lured his victims. I didn't think CC had any larger significance on the series.

It was clear a while ago that EMH is in fact a big Internet media pastiche of many different memes, concepts, etc. and CC may be the next. I hope they can continue tying the ideas together well, as I think the Rake has knitted into the texture of the larger story nicely. Maybe in this universe CC is just a creepy yet fascinating story/show the kids were familiar with, which SM once used to lure them away from the Corenthal house to go look for "treasure."

Could well be along those lines, except for one curious thing: The video did not continue after the first few seconds. It shut down. So perhaps once they were affected he shut the video down along with the kids.

I say that because they were so specific about the passing of 8 minutes, which would coincide very closely to the end of video. Perhaps it only appeared that way so that wouldn't happen every time they check the camera? I don't know. But I definitely agree that the idea was to stop the children.
I would not be at all surprised if Corenthal was "inhabited".
Vince was kidding when he talked about Candle Cove, but it's possible that the 70s!children watched it.

Oh, right - in that case I assume what they had was another 8 minutes of black screen after we cut to black. Because something (Slendy) visibly short-circuited the video right after (or at the same time?) it short-circuited their minds. We saw only a couple seconds before it went to black - I assume they were affected just by those seconds, but maybe I'm parsing it too much.

The kids might have done something wrong(went though the door) and went back to the future and now Slenderman is trying to take them home.I think this because they were talking about him coming this far and that they were trying to get back on there own.
edit-And the game they were talking about were the trails.

Okay, gotcha. I wasn't sure if he was or wasn't.

I went and looked the pasta up again, and it says that it did 'air' in the seventies. So, it's possible that the seventies children watched. I kind of like the idea of Candle Cove coming into play as well.

I already cast my vote that they use CANDLE COVE when it was first referenced as a side-note in the Vinnie-letter, and I say it again: Candle Cove!!

It ties nicely with the themes of childhood traumata (letters, songs used) and is a good way of setting things up.

Also, this fucked me up badly!!

What is Jeff saying BTW? Sounds like backwards...

Anonymousity, he stammers a bit but says "I'm sorry that you and Miss Maryanne had to drive this far, but we-we were trying to get back on our own. He got us there in an instant, I don't know why it took us so long to get home or - so long to get there."

I'm sure I'm mishearing it but I could swear '70s Jeffrey said "we were trying to get back on our owns!" Which, yes, adorable while also very creepy overall, hmm.

Also, just throwing this out there, but HABIT could be a pseudonym for The Rake, kinda like The Operator is to MH!Slenderman

It takes him a REALLY LONG TIME
I also want to point out that HABIT could be the greatest IG gamejack of all time. Killing off one of the series side characters isn't crazy, it's DEDICATION.

Not much help now but maybe for future use, the mediafire file upload is a flv filetype. VLC can play flv natively but different versions have issues with that filetype. WimpyFLV is a great freeware standalone portable player with native support. I'm not following why we have been tracking separate entities all along and now there seem to be several theories that they are almost interchangeable? Was there something that prompted this that I missed? I am not ruling it out, a super nightmare beast with multiple personality disorder is a pretty disturbing concept, but I am not seeing any evidence of it here.
