For many people's sanity, I hope this topic and its sage wisdom reaches a few souls.

A rule of thumb:

If you have to say "I apologize if this has already been discussed", it most likely has.

WORD.

Same goes for "I haven't read the thread but" or "I know this is stupid/talked about/already discredited but I just felt like posting it".

Though it is a step in the right direction, slapping [SPEC] in front of a new thread doesn't mean it actually warrants its own thread. Most, if not all, of the recent new threads would be very much at home in the General Discussion thread!

From the standpoint of organization, I can understand where you all are coming from with this logic, and it makes sense to me. However, it has been my experience on other forums in the past that sometimes discussing multiple subjects in a single topic and following each subject independently can sometimes become tedious and hard to follow for some. While this may not be the case for everyone, it is just my observation. I'm not saying that I support the concept of posting a new topic for ever new piece of speculation, but I do understand that sometimes one subject can become entangled with others when they are all being discussed in a single thread. That's why the "split topic" feature gets a lot of use on some forums.

Just my 2 cents, make of it what you will. Wink
