Okay, so I've been on board with pretty much everything that has happened in EMH so far. I dig that they're so damn ambitious. It's nice to see somebody striving for complexity, even if it falls a little short. Never understood the perpetual gripe about the writing or the acting, I thought both were fine. And the accusation that they went too far with the third trial is ridiculous. This is an ARG, and you need to be aware of its falseness. Accusing of EMH of breaking up friendships in real life is like accusing Grand Theft Auto of inspiring real violence. Blaming some piece of media narrative for the negative behavior of others is ridiculous.

That having been said? My EMH-Disappointment cherry has officially been popped.

That fucking poem is terrible. Seriously, guys, did you go with your first draft on this one? Did you purposefully co-opt shitty Metallica lyrics? Is it supposed to sound like something scrawled in the notebook of a Korn-loving nu-metal 15 year old from 1999?

Look, I'm not giving up on EMH or anything, but dude... seriously?

I think it's intentionally bad, to embarrass even more when read aloud.

I won't say the poem is the first embarrassing/disappointing thing to appear on EMH, but it is really bad.

However, I think some of their earlier stuff was worse, to me at least, in the acting department. Although, I suppose their whole gig was a fitness vlog, so camp sort of WAS in order.

I don't exactly think it fair to call their complexity disappointing, however. I'm inclined to agree with RatHeadSyndicate in that complexity is the meat and potatoes of a good ARG. And as a game designer, I also agree with the statement that EMH can in no way be held responsible for the behavior of its viewers.

Are people really complaining about the poem of all things? From what I've heard, the trial wouldn't exactly be hard to do if it was a literary masterpiece.

See, I didn't see anything that suggested the poem was purposefully awful. I thought it was supposed to be spooky-scary, a means by which to spread Habit's awful Nyarlathotepian chaos throughout the world by announcing it from the rooftops. My apologies if I'm wrong, but I don't really think I am. I think it's just a shitty poem.

I gotta say I'm a little disappointed that they've went a bit over board with using the multiple medias available because I just don't find them very viable to telling a scary story like some others, but I can't disagree more about the series as a whole being a disappointment. It's still my second favorite after MH and really the only one whose held a candle to it in anyway.

TT is a rip-off and others either starting getting good and the author forgets them or they've just not reached the classic status of MH and EMH. Dark Harvest, MLAnderson0, both have potential and likeable characters/lead, but they are so fresh and new that only time we'll tell who will feel that third spot in the my Slendy loving heart.

Well, I stalker-ishly read some of Jeff's OOG Tumblr and he had poetry there that didn't seem as bad as this, which is why I was assuming this was deliberate.
On an unrelated note, I should probably mention, since this is the topic for it, that I do have one little complaint about EMH. It's never really scared me. It's my favorite because it's fun, but the little creepy moments they have are surrounded by too much non-creepy to have a net creepy effect.

Now here I can agree with someone complaining. I enjoy watching EMH because the characters are fun, but the creepiness so inherent to Slenderstories is just lost here. Even the 'scary bits' aren't really scary because they happen in a flash and in the aftermath things tend to go back to amusing.

Yeah, I will agree that I don't really watch EMH for the thrills and chills. Like, I've never watched a video at 1 in the morning and propped things against my door because of it (unlike MH, which has made me do that on several occasions). At the same time, from the beginning you kind of had the feeling that this wasn't the point of EMH, to be scary. It could be freaky at times, sure, but not genuinely be scary.

I'm not going to go through the troubles of making a username for this, just wanted to comment this and then go back to my eternal lurk.

Every trail was easy to do in a way which meant no lose for you. You didn't even had to get your item dirty in the first one if you didn't want to.

The poem was awful. But it was made worse by the people reading it either as fancy poetry or as if they didn't care. It seemed meant to be yell with anger in a street preacher way. Which is strange.
If people get so much in the game as to truly destroy friendships, why can't they read a fucking poem with a little by of feeling?

That. Now back to the non existence.

These 'trials' are the worst thing they ever did.
