That might be a bit hokey, ("Did it look... like THIS!?!?" "Oh nooooooo") but that seems like the horrifying part o.O. What'd be even more horrifying is if it wasn't just an illusion, but if the person who lost their features actually *did* become the Noppera-bo. Maybe that's why the Slender Man scares people? So they tell their friends and they become the Slender Man, like he needs to shed skins every now and then to keep living or something O.o. Would explain why people disappear, too

i was linked a marble hornets fic some time back. and it was...soul-scarring. now i want to find it again so i can subject my soul to further damage, but damned if it hasn't disappeared on me. description under spoiler tag to avoid making folks cry:
