Veljko, I did hear back from them. They're working on some sort of longform reply to show everyone. OOG these are college kids and I'm sure that classes, the local weather and video production demands are weighing on them.

Sorry to but in but I just found something that I think we might have overlooked. I was just looking through the EMH wiki when I came across the transcript for the 'Jeff'. In the video Jeff has a bookmark in his copy of House of Leaves and circled a passage. That passage being:

"Why did God create a dual universe?
So he might say,
'Be not like me, I am alone'
And it might be heard."

With all the talk of different realities and the boys slipping between them that quote seamed kinda important or foreshadowy. For further proof it's also the video where Alex opens the door with tape on his mouth and then skips back so when he opens the door again the tape is gone and the boys don't find anything strange. Perhaps reality shenanigans are not so far from the truth?

The passage's been mentioned more than once.

Really in the context of the rest of the book, I feel it communicates the sort of lack of a "god" figure, the lack of an absolute "answer" to the universe as a whole.

Basically, that it cannot be said that "truth" exists -- only questions.

What this is is a big "fuck you" to the ones that want to solve everything. That's just not possible.

it has been my firm cemented passing notion that slenderman, rake, and all other supernatural elements are merely a figment or extension of the imagination and knowledge of the main cast

perhaps this is just me trying to be logical, but you have some kids making fake videos of slenderman, who they have seen online as not really existing, then he is chasing after them... they all the while still say that they don't believe the mh slenderman is a real thing.

why slenderman? why rake? seems odd they would be haunted by the bowels of /x/ instead of anything else.

unless it's not anything like that at all. They are being haunted by some force making them believe these things are real. a visual mirage of sorts.

or perhaps, even, a separate reality where fiction is reality and vice versa. they are trapped in it, or are tormented by it, and they only connect to us via the internet. this is why some videos can't be seen by them. because they are fact for us, they are fiction for them. and because slenderman and the rake are fiction for us, they are real to them.

a sort of negaverse that they seem to be slipping in and out of.

if evan starts growing a goatee, it's true!

Not sure that I agree. The theory is coherent and sound, not to mention clever, but in a way that reminds me a bit of pre-established harmony[1]. It is correct because it alters the terms in which it is evaluated in such a way to be correct.

That being said, I think, purely for OOG reasons, that that's not the plot of EMH. Here's why:

1. It would go entirely against the Slendervlog genre. And EMH is truly high quality, but it's still a Slendervlog. Adding in a whole layer of misdirection would be one twist too far.

2. They interact with their fans. IRL, even. Admittedly, GreenFeathers has an alien larvae clutch riding atop his spinal column and wearing him like a hat.[2] But I have it on good authority that he was once human, and yet he contacted the (fictional?) EMH crew.

3. I wouldn't like that to be the twist ending of the show. Not much of a reason, I'll grant you, but I can be petty sometimes. Wink

I believe the reason, OOG, that MH is not canon in EMH is that they wanted to avoid the implications of crossover. Further, I suspect they didn't want us to mix up The Operator with EMH!Slendy. Cleanest way to do it is to claim MH is fiction in the EMH universe.

[1] Please forgive me for the insufferably pretentious example. Honestly, it's the first thing that came to mind. Embarassed

[2] And that's why he makes weird videos to vex us. It's a larva thing.
