A Response to "HYBRID"

I'll keep it short, because I can be long-winded.
I very recently read a short little something entitled "HYBRID" by an author we all know. I found myself first feeling worry as I read, and then pride as the last paragraph ended. I thought we were coming to a denouncement of the "fictional" self, a message that though it didn't change how he feels about those of us who would be reading the post, we needed to be sure to remember we didn't know him, and that this knowledge would be, frankly, inaccessible through this tool of the internet. A fear that simply comes with the territory, and I admit I feared it despite a general sense of his personal decorum. (A little irony there.) What he wrote, however, was more of an assertion. We all want to feel that the "characters" we've come to know and love are real, we want to believe that under the mad (INSANE) plot that these people are themselves. It's a timeless, two-sided delusion. And I think our author summed it up well. We are all in relationships with what we've been shown, but who we see is not exactly fabricated.

Quote:
You shook our hand in greeting, primarily in fiction, before fact was ever a concern. What right do we have to brand their realm fiction - without them, you and I, this exchange of information, wouldn't be occurring. That much you cannot deny. That being said, yes, we know the Troys, the Josephs, the Adams, the Jeffs, Evans, and Vinnys, but without their counterparts, they (we) would just fall as more randomly assorted pieces of information scattered across the circuits. Their fiction gives their fact credibility. To say their fiction is pure truth is lunacy; to say their reality is false is just as absurd. However, you cannot split the two. They could not exist without the other . And this much is true.

And this, written even with the tribulations and forced perspective, and the fact that he is in a position to be told belligerently by the masses when he and his associates are disliked and then awkwardly by people like myself when they have earned respect and affection. For myself, knowing despite my own wildly poor attempt at the latter and that of others he and the group have surely received, that he would still write "HYBRID" with that level of caring and honesty- well it blows my mind.
This "relationship" is surely odd, and the obstacles awkward, and the assumptions as always have to be larger because we're all communicating over the nebula of technology. I'm glad for this message in the name of something like friendship.
I would like to say back to the author: While we met behind computer screens, you've all pulled us beyond that. Honestly. Here we all are, playing like children together. The playground might look different, and maybe sometimes we forget that one kid's name and, yeah, some of us are going to fight over the ball and shit, but we're currently all willingly engaged in the biggest game of Pretend that I've ever heard of.
I guess, make of that what you will.

Anyways, sorry about the random short essay here. I had to respond to "HYBRID" in some way, and I already learned my lesson about email (lesson is: happy emailing is like drunk dialing- just don't do it man) and I figured, where better than among the HYBRIDs?

This made me tear up.

I'm so glad I found this series. I'm so glad that I'm part of this crazy adventure.

I'm so glad I found all of you.

That's what Jeff's post made me thankful for. What this lovely response made me thankful for.

Both that post and our guests response made me feel so happy inside. I knew I loved being a part of this for a reason.

I feel in some way that in the grand scheme of things that despite we know only usernames of some but both real and usernames for others we are all connected. We know each other in all different ways and we allow every person into our fold with welcoming arms. It makes me happy to know despite the way the internet can skew who you are that the people I met here are truly some of the best people I've met being involved in anything.

It's like we were a ton of little kids who never realized we /had/ to grow up and leave our games of fancy and playing pretend behind. We held onto them and it made us out of place and awkward but we knew it would be there for us forever. Then one day by some strange happen stance a large group of us, a group misplaced and a little strange but caring and accepting and tolerant none the less met up. We all knew we belonged there. We have disputes like any other large group of friends and family because that is what happens when there is a lot of people. Sometimes things get argued over and some things get really weird and crazy and people come in and we have to rearrange and then there are moments where we rush back to help people up because they need it.

In some great and strange way we never forgot how to play pretend while still knowing we could be just as real while running around making adventures while helping build even more.

Oh how I love you all. So damn much.

Who woulda thunk an ARG could bring so many strangers together into a tight-knit friendship?

No wait....actually its more like a tight-knit family. :'D

I don't want to actually link it due to OOG nature/ 4th wall, but something AN AUTHOR WE KNOW wrote about SOMETHING ELSE HE'S DOING.
XD
To everyone who responded to my response (INCEPTIONBRAAHM), I'm glad. I feel mushy. It's gross. But absolutely worth it. AND NOW BACK TO THE THREAD WITH ME and back to normalcy in whatever way the word "normal" applies to this series at all which I am not sure it does run on sentence yay.

This. While it is my first post on this forum I have been lurking for awhile but never registered. I love the series and I love reading the discussions about this adventure we are all a part of. Though the parts may seem small, they are never unimportant.

But anyway...

You know it was weird, I was thinking of posting something similar around the same time saying that I simply love all of you guys, and that you simply have provided a great community and online friendship that I will never forget or take for granted ^_^
