DUD, I think this refers back to early discussions of CLOVERFIELD here at uF which dubbed Clover "Mister Grumpy Pants" as an affectionate term for not knowing what to call it officially. Part joke, part CLOVERFIELD ARG lore by now.

Rather like how we've dubbed Josh's contact as "Mysterio" — for lack of a better/official name, and so on.

Old archived topic about it, though not the actual start of the name I don't think: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24156

i've seen people say something about the "blue lightning" or whatever.

i was noticing the same thing as the truck is riding on 2 wheels. look in the right side of the frame, there is a big blue ball…could be the light reflecting from the camera lens, or maybe whatever this thing is, shoots blue energy.

(someone probably pointed this out earlier, but i dont search because i'm lazy. i'm in the mood for fish anyways...)

That "thing" in the background, is a gazebo being pushed aside by the explosion.

These are just the same lens flare visual effects which JJ added throughout STAR TREK. They were mostly white in that film.

Spielberg actually had a bit of lens flares in CE3K for a couple reasons: the look helps replicate a documentary style of filmmaking which adds a sense of immediacy and realism to shots (or at least making them appear less 'polished' and perfect like moviemaking shots), and the lens flares also gave the UFOs a sense of scale and realism, disguising their nature as optical miniature shots.

Abrams certainly uses flares to more stylized visual impact.

The blue things that you are seeing appear in a lot of movies its cause from the lens of the Cam recording the movie. So show you I took two screen shots from different movies. The first is from Capt. American, and the Second is the very beginning of Transformer 3.

It's light flair. Watch Star Trek with the commentary on. JJ likes to flair the camera lens with a flashlight for effect. He talks about it in the commentary.

Agreed (per my post two above), but also some of these flares are post-production effects as well which allows much greater visual control over their look and effectiveness too.
