Cool; can't believe I solved it...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Keyed Vignere cipher, using 'Minor' and 'Arcana' gives
"David goes to see his friend Ben, a timely fellow who is always on guard."
So David has gone to Big Ben in London?

and while we're at it...
The fortune telling about 'devices that allow speaking across the ocean without using their mouths' put me in mind of the telegraph, so from

Quote:
Three Telegraph Systems Emerge Based on the Electromagnet
In 1830, an American, Joseph Henry (1797-1878), demonstrated the potential of William Sturgeon's electromagnet for long distance communication by sending an electronic current over one mile of wire to activate an electromagnet which caused a bell to strike.
In 1837, British physicists, William Cooke and Charles Wheatstone patented the Cooke and Wheatstone telegraph using the same principle of electromagnetism.
However, it was Samuel Morse (1791-1872) that successfully exploited the electromagnet and bettered Joseph Henry's invention. Morse made sketches of a "magnetized magnet" based on Henry's work. Morse invented a telegraph system that was a practical and commercial success
Note 1837 is David's date of birth
Also, there is a Yorkshire Telegraph newspaper, founded by two Hargrove brothers, but not till 1869

So, you used the first word in the phrase as a key and then put that resulting text through using the second word as a key? Or are both words the key? I just tried the first approach and it did not work the same way for me.

Me either. I've been trying "Minor Arcana", Arcana" and the like for hours. Care to enlighten us?
EDIT: Ahhh right, got it now!

The only way I could get it to work was to go here , click decrypt, copy and paste the cipher text into the "your message" field. Then click show keymaker, enter the word "minor" into the "key words" field, click 'apply to key". Next, type "arcana" into the "passphrase" field. You should then see the deciphered text. Not sure how this works or why it's called a "keyed vigenere". I thought all vigeneres were keyed.

I went here: http://rumkin.com/tools/cipher/vigenere-keyed.php "Keyed" means that in addition to the cipher key, the alphabet also has keying.

In Letter #1 (7 Feb.) David says he is "going into hiding" and Saranna already posted it on her blog as "bens-letter.html".....
Am thinking not too much gets past Saranna's tarot gifts and that this is an intriguing story.

I'm going to borrow a page from Thunderwolf's playbook and send her a message with encrypted text using the same cipher that she just used.

Saranna,
Thank you for the nice reading. I'll keep your advice in mind. Your Daily Draw post was very illuminating. I hope that the hard work you wrote about is the key to unlocking my full potential.

Thanks for the explanation, it makes perfect sense.

Well out goes the Cryptool in goes your link to the Keyed Vigenere Cipher.
Funny it was first key I tried since it was the most obvious even before she posted an hint. Annoying the Cryptool didn't do the right way.
Thats me relying on complex tools that I don't how works.
Cheers enaxor.

Anywho, I've emailed for a reading so we'll see what reply I get.

Quick Business Trip
I've been called away on business. Some of you may know that I consult with various government agencies to help them solve difficult cases or track down hard-to-find people. I'm in California getting ready to meet with someone who is quite famous. I can't yet share either my location or who I am meeting with, but I promise more details soon.
For those of you who are waiting for your free reading, I apologize for the delay and I thank you for your patience. Things should be back to normal in a few days, once my business here is over.
