Had an amazing EMH dream. Kind of a post-apocalypse type. It was just Vinnie and Evan, walking through kind of the same terrain we see in 77of76. Evan has a baseball bat, Vinnie is weaponless, though I couldn't shake the feeling there Vince had no need for a weapon and knew it too. They both looked really tired. Cut to night. They've convinced this ex-Marine type to let them stay the night. They don't have a home to go back to, and they need shelter from the storm.From they way they're talking to the burly ex-Marine it becomes obvious he's the only contact they've had with another human being for...a very long time. A distressingly long time. They've been traveling on foot for a while.

At some point, the guy starts having this beef with Evan. There's never any detail, I don't remember the dialogue. As he's arguing with Vin in his kitchen, it becomes clear that he's convinced that Evan is somehow "wrong" and dangerous and he doesn't want Ev in his house anymore. Vince gets this really tired and pinched look on his face, and its pretty obvious that he knows exactly what the ex-Marine is talking about: Evan is indeed "wrong" somehow, and he's definitely responsible for the world's current state of affairs. But he's still Vin's best friend, and they're sticking together come hell or high water. I could see Evan hanging out by the kitchen door, just listening to them argue. He didn't even try to hide, he just leaned against the door frame. He still had his baseball bat with him, and he looked like he was about to cry, whether from the fact the ex-Marine knew he was "wrong" or that Vinnie was sticking up for him regardless. Or both.

Cut to later that night, still in the same kitchen. I had the feeling that the weather Vin and Evan had been trying to avoid had set in though I didn't see anything like rain or snow through the kitchen window. The ex-Marine has had it up to here -- whatever Vince told him didn't placate him, and he doesn't just want Evan out of the house, he wants Evan dead, for the "bad thing" to be killed so it can never hurt anyone again. (It never became clear through my dream what the "bad thing" was. I think it was related to HABIT but that was just a feeling.) It's pretty clear that the guy is terrified of Evan. So, he comes after Ev with a shovel, tries to whack his head clean off. Evan won't stand for it of course.

This was the only time in my dream where Evan lost that guilty/sad/I'm-about-to-throw-up look and just looked royally pissed. Of course he defends himself and gets the better of the ex-Marine, but basically gets injured in the process, cuing Vinnie walking in and taking control of the situation. He just...takes the shovel away from the guy, and he crumples on the floor sobbing, hunched over like he's been stabbed in the gut. Vinnie looks fucking pissed and a little pleased he was able to subdue the ex-Marine type so quickly. Evan has that guilty look again and he just watches the guy for a while. They leave.

Cue the next setting. It's obviously some time later, three weeks have passed maybe? Vin has lost the shovel and is arguing with a woman in her sixties, she doesn't have a gray hair on her head. She doesn't want to let them stay -- again, Evan is the sticking point. He's still "wrong" somehow, like he has a disease/zombie virus/what have you. Vinnie keeps insisting that Evan can't spread whatever is wrong with him, and that he's harmless. (As harmless as the Jersey Samurai ever is, anyway.) He wears her down and she agrees to let them stay the night. She gives Vin her guest room but Evan has to sleep in an isolated part of the house. (Geez, poor guy.) Neither of them like it, they want to stick together, but they agree because it'll give them a roof over their heads.

This is where things get weird.

The old lady has a thing for snow globes. The room she puts Vinnie in is filled with them. Somehow turning them onto their sides will act like a protective charm of some sort and basically protect him from Evan and whatever is wrong with him while he sleeps. (Reminds me of the myths about succubi.) Vinnie gets angry at this and they end up arguing about whether or not Evan is really dangerous. Vince keeps insisting that he isn't dangerous and that Evan wouldn't hurt him and that "it" doesn't spread. I'm getting the feeling that whatever is wrong with Evan is more of a spiritual impurity as opposed to a disease -- he's clearly possessed by something that everyone but Vince is afraid of.

The old woman basically refuses to listen to him. The snow globes are left where they are in strategic positions all over the room. Vinnie spends a few minutes cursing her before going to sleep.

The last thing I remember is the old woman pinning Evan against the wall of her house. She keeps laughing, there are shadows hanging over their heads like icicles -- ugly shadows, tangible, oily things that look at you. Evan is responsible for them somehow but I don't understand how or why. The woman isn't happy about their presence but she knows how to deal with them. So she has him pinned against the wall, and she won't stop laughing, and Evan looks like he's about to die from all the conflicting emotion in him -- he wants to kill her but he knows he mustn't, whether because its just wrong or whether it has something to do with his "wrong"ness.

The one piece of dialogue I remember is this: the old woman suddenly grabbing his hands and looking on the lines of his palms and saying, "You're very old, aren't you Evan?" And its obvious that Evan has been living for a long time, longer than anyone thought.

And then I woke up. And typed this up because I know you crazy people will love it as much as I do. I'm writing it up as a fanfiction. I'm going back to bed.
