I imagine it's the same event. I think they probably just omitted it.

I assume they were just at home and Evan is referring to a simple physical door. We can go on all sorts of flights of fancy in another direction from that line but I'm not inclined to, not about that anyway.

Right, that's exactly why I'm confused. The bit about the door does seem to make sense if they disappear from inside their home, but in the letter we find that "Maryann called me frantically from a store in town. The children had gone missing. " I'm not going to even try to speculate on what's going on with that, but it does seem to clash with the "door" bit.

I'm going to move that the mention of the store is a red herring. She said that they had been missing since mid-morning, and that she had thought they had made a trip into town. Not necessarily that they vanished from the store.

Another thing, I'm a bit confused about here. Was talking to Dixie about it in Angora.

The letter specifies that the children were transported 300 miles east. And they were, as Alliance, Ohio, and Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, are 342 miles apart by car. (At least in 2011.)

However, it also makes mention of being "just across the border" into Pennsylvania. Mt. Pocono is close to a bordering state...just not Ohio. That state would be New Jersey.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong here. But that seemed a little odd to me.

Maybe by 1975 the Corenthals had already left Ohio and moved to New Jersey, to be near the rest of Corenthal's family? I don't recall if any of the later letters specified a location.

Ah, you're exactly right. I was completely misreading the "small trip into town" sentence.

That's the thing, though. The letter clearly specifies "300 miles east", meaning Ohio is the primary location. I think.

Maybe they just fucked up.

I thought the last Corenthal letter from '81 said they were still in Ohio, and leaving it.

Everyone is thinking it, I'm just saying it:
It almost reads as if the kids were playing games with Slenderman, He who can teleport Himself and others...

Well, that's just a given.

Aargh. I'm completely missing everything today. Also, the 1981 letter says they "cannot stay in Ohio any longer", so they were presumably still there in '75.

Also, just got informed that some unbreakable dinner plans will have me away from home until later this evening, so I'll miss the big reveal.

Perhaps. I think it's deliberately meant to be confusing, or maybe I'm just not reading it right.

Just making sure there were no stragglers. :3

Meanwhile, if this is indeed TNC's prize, then we have yet more instance of HABIT's involvement due to his continuing dispensal of important source material. Also a given, but still distressing.

Okay, with this note my cracked out tree is slightly reborn so I have to put it out there in the name of the "same kids" theory:

SM took the kids jaunting around the country to "play." Similarly, the loss of Jessa inexplicably triggers dreams of a childhood fire in Jeff, and he goes cross country but ends up back at a burnt out husk he claims is his old school. For all he or the others know, it is - but if it was actually Fairmount in Ohio papered over with a false memory, the gang could've been ported over none the wiser while still believing they're in Jersey at Jeff's school.

Insane yes, overcomplicated yes. And not likely. But as of this letter far from impossible.

Also noticed that Playing Pirates has come into play again. Fairmount Vince talked about Playing Pirates with Captain Habit -- the theme is being continued here with the little show the children were planning.
