"No idea" how it got there, Noah? Really, no idea? Not even a hypothesis? Doesn't the fact that whoever's doing this to you can POSSESS YOU kind of suggest at least one possibility?

brb making a post in the "What do you want to see more/less of" thread.

Yeah, Noah's shown no evidence of being able to stop what is going on at all, and the forces that are fucking with him seem to be overwhelmingly powerful. (Again, they can POSSESS HIM. There's no good reason for them not to just possess him and have him zombie-walk down to the boardwalk, except that they seem to want to fuck with him until he goes there of his own volition.) It's kind of got the opposite problem to those blogs which demystify Slendy and make him seem human and defeatable: Slendy and Observer seem so completely unstoppable that it's difficult to see any hope for Noah at all, at which point you just kind of wish they'd off the guy and have done with it.

For this sort of thing to really work you need to keep up a glimmer of hope that the protagonist might survive, whilst at the same time progressively amping up the dreadful possibility that they won't. If you don't have both of those things, you don't get the rush of catharsis if the protagonist does manage to survive, and it's no longer a punch in the gut if the protagonist doesn't survive.

It's a tightrope which I think only MH has really managed to get right.

I think they're both MH and TT are holding their ground quite well. Honestly, I don't think TT's plot has completely kicked in yet. This still seems like the first part of what they're trying to do. I'm hanging in there, mainly because I think they know what they're doing and that they look at these chats and laugh at how naively fast we are analyzing everything.

So, I've just watched all the videos on YouTube and I have to say that this is quite interesting and I agree with MetaMike in that this does feel like the first part of it all.

So far we've got the introduction of Milo's videos and now this is Act 1, though it feels like it'll be Act 2 very soon.

I felt the same way about the first series of Marble Hornets. The introduction is just one episode in MH, but Act 1 lasts until the interview with Tim with J just reviewing Alex's tapes, at which point it switches over to Act 2 where J becomes more active.

Also, is there a wiki for this and I read that he has a Twitter at the top of the page, so I'll be looking for links now.

I didn't mean to sound like I was done or giving up on the series. Tribe Twelve is actually one of my favorites. I don't think anything about it feels over, I just feel... well, kind of like awakeasaurusres said, I feel a sort of hopelessness, like Noah is way out of his depth.

And I feel like it's been that way for a while.

But there is so much room and time for it to grow and develop, and like MetaMike said Tribe Twelve could have a lot of plot in store. And I certainly would not agree that Marble Hornets has been the only series to capture the suspense and gut-wrenching concern factor so often sought by these kinds of stories.

re: noah as a character.

honestly, i find the helplessness thing kind of amusing. he's got an eldritch horror and a creepy "observer" stalking him, and he's been possessed by one or both of them at least once. you know things can only end badly for him and that there's basically nothing he can do to even fight it. and yet he still thinks things are gonna turn out okay. the sheer genre-blind woobiness of it all is adorable.

You know what? I think he's going for the whole "Bildungsroman" buildup, where we follow Noah's transformation from being a wimpy scardy-cat, into a king of badassery. I very much look forward to this. In b4 more violence. Twisted Evil

Don't get the reference but agree with the explination.

Oh, Bildungsroman isn't a referance to anything, it's just a literary device that "focuses on the psychological and moral growth of the protagonist from youth to adulthood. Change is thus extremely important."

Reading that, I agree even more. Act 2 of TribeTwelve: Noah attacks Slender Man with that smashed phone. Slender Man is most displeased.
