Here's something I'm sick of: protagonists in slendyblogs/slendyvlogs utterly failing to put two and two together.

Obviously there's a tightrope to walk here. If you're going for an ARG as opposed to a straight-up story, you want the players to be solving the puzzles, not the protagonist, so if the protagonist is too smart then that's sabotaged. But still, protagonists should show at least some ability to take what they already know and apply it to situations in order to come up with ideas of their own.

Latest example: Noah in TT tweeted a picture which had somehow got onto his computer desktop, and says he has "no idea" how it got there. The thing is, it's established in the series that whatever dark forces are stalking him can straight-up possess him and make him do things. It's also established that the Observer can pretty much stroll in and do whatever he likes to cameras and computer equipment. So there's not just one but two pretty good possibilities as to how the image might have got there, but Noah still has "no idea".

That's a slightly nitpicky example because it might just have been a badly-chosen turn of phrase. But I have seen worse examples. Situations where slendyvloggers/bloggers post stuff like "OK so I've watched MH and EMH and TT and I've taken my own videos of this faceless guy watching me and Operator symbols are being drawn all over my house and there's a masked guy posting videos on my channel but I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON". YOU'RE BEING STALKED BY SLENDER MAN, NUMBSKULL, THAT'S WHAT'S GOING ON. Gah.

This isn't really directed at someone running a Slenderblog or whatever, but I saw this and it sent my ragemeter through the roof.

Do I even have to explain what is so fucking annoying about this? (And she captioned it as "oh slenderman don't run ily!")

I'm sick of people being "in love with" Masky and Slenderman
I'm sick of bad photoshop

Not to mention using a preexisting Slenderman photo made by Victor Surge instead of photoshopping him into your own photo

And what a terrible way to edit out the person peeking out the window in the original. Now she has a 3-foot skull

I'll admit, I've brainstormed quite a few ideas about ARG's to do.

The one I've only really given more thought to is where the stalkings and such occur on a military base that's understaffed, but I'd have no idea how to pull that off in video form - I could possibly in blog format, but again - I'd need to wait till my camera comes back from my aunt(she's had it for like a month -_-).

I'd like to see a slower buildup, as others have said. Give it the appearance of a real blog, and then hit up with Slendy after a while. Don't just rush right into it.

Another thing is the skepticism - it's fine to have it for a while, but going on denying it when it's right in your face is, as others have said, hilariously annoying.

I agree in a sence, but its hard to not have some level of ignorance without sounding like the prog already knows the whole story. The problem with slendyblogs is that YOU are the main character. YOU already know the story.

Personally I think that slendyvlog makers should not make their channel EXCLUSIVELY a slendyvlog. yeah yeah yeah, EMH has fun somtimes, but its obvious their just trying to to use it as material for their vlog.

I think that authors should actually use their channel for themselves somtimes.

Couldn't that break immersion, though? Not an entirely bad idea at all... but I think you would have to watch out.

It could if it's handled like "Oh hay, i'm going insane and pretty much fucked, but i might as well make a funny joke or something, right? Very Happy"

but maybe if handled so that it's like.. something the character wants to do to help the insanity.... and... stuff.

Yeah, I gotcha. I just know (since EMH was referenced) that the author seems to risk the overall satisfaction of the viewers, cause, if I recall some youtube comments seem to be like "OH, SLONDORMONS IS AFTER YOU AND YOU'RE PLAYING GAMES? PAHLEASEEEE" so, again, it's a risk you have to consider.

But, this is a sound suggestion if it's relatively early in the series, before too much has happened. (i.e. A Day in the Life [regardless of its aftermath], Noah's roadtrip montage, etc.)

Have you watched Angel's Game? I didn't get very far in it before getting bored and giving up, but that's because most of the videos have nothing to do with Slenderman. Video game reviews, political commentary, you name it. I don't want to watch that crap, though.

I think that a little humor is fine in a slender series, like how Noah has his forumspring, using humor as a vent for his frustration. EMH kinda goes over the top with the humor...cracking jokes when their very lives are in danger really kills the immersion and realism for me...the nonchalant laughing and humorous dialogue really doesn't fit besides in the beginning where they weren't being stalked.

Humor is good in moderation. Wink

You know what I'd like to see, for some reason? Slendy breaking someones window with his tentacles. I just Imagine seeing him outside, then hiding in the corner, and then BOOM! Window across the room shatters, with his tentacles just there, waving. And the protagonist runs outside, if he/she is sensible. I will totally do this if no-one does it first (I've been thinking about starting a Slendervlog for a while).

Sounds good, Boat.

I'll tell you what I want to see: Comments disabled. Leave 'em on and you get situations like EverymanHYBRIDS' comment section or that My Dark Journal guy throwing death metal lyrics at his commenters.

^^ THIS

... I don't know about the death metal stuff but I'm pretty sure quoting old english poetry on comments isn't doing much for anyone's story immersion

Agree with this SO MUCH. Unless there is actually a story driven point to a comment (not just "We're watching" crap, I mean a link, news article, or message that may help piece things together *but even then, who can really tell when its someone trolling or not?*), I'm not interested in reading them.

All I need is my costume and I'll be good to go! Would green-screened stop motion clay be fine for the tentacles? I know how the "window breakage" will be done, however. Just need Sony Vegas.

NOPE

I don't want there to be "NO ANSWERS" and "RUNNING WON'T HELP". It's just so.. clichéd. Granted, seeing it for the first time would scare me, but after that, it's just... really? And I'm directly contradicting myself here, because I've done that.. Embarassed

Another thing I don't like is the overuse of (X). Using it once or twice to establish you're a Slendervlog/blog is fine because it's a symbol that's used throughout the Slendyverse. But having it be your own symbol? Now, that's just lazy. It's not hard to make a symbol, guys. Hell, even T12 made their own, and it started out exactly like Marble Hornets.

Also, random distortion where distortion is not needed. Just putting distortion in your videos does NOT make them scary, especially if Slenderman isn't in the video.

YEP

Slenderman moving. As has been said before, him just standing there is going to get old. But if he's actively trying to get to you (a la Angel's Game or Entry #4 of MH), then it just makes it scary for me. Like, before he was just watching, but now, HE'S COMIN FOR YA.

Tentacles. I've only seen these twice, once in Outside Agents, and the other in T12. They were there from the start of the mythos, but they've remained unused for a while. But please, if you use them, don't overuse them.
