hush, luvs. text makes one come off harsher than they intended. and anyway, we are back on topic, more or less.

my two cents still says that our dear habby is bullshitting us to make himself seem more threatening. he seems the type to want to make himself out to be scarier than he is, especially if he really is just a glorified alternate personality.

Your butt is most decidedly stupid.

And a butt.

As much as I'd like for HABIT to be some ever-present thing, it's probably way, way less than that. Although it's not human, either, at least not anymore if it ever was.

Perhaps if it were adorned with a top hat and monocle, it would become a more intelligent bottom. At the very least, it would be the classiest. Very Happy

And yeah, for some reason, even though my current favorite theory about HABIT is that he's some sort of mental parasite, there is always a sneaking suspicion in the back of my mind that it is going to turn out to be something really simple just to mess with us xD

You're just gonna love it when in a few more videos the guys come out and admit that everything was a big troll like their slenderman at the beginning. "Yeah, we just pretended to have crazy stuff happening so we could give you a show about how to stay fit when running from eldritch horrors. Now, that Yoga episode we promised."

That would be hilarious, and genius, with a tad of disbelief.

Over on the wiki I just created an "In-game" timeline trying to lay out all of the letters, files, etc. and the information that we have gathered from those. Have a look and let me know if you see anything I missed or got wrong.

Thanks!!

Truly the ChildOfAtom is the nuclear Messiah! Smile

However, I fear there is an error in the timeline.

I'm fairly certain that Jeff & Vincet met waaaay earlier, and then later met Evan (in high school, as you say). I seem to recall a UStream quote about how Jeff & Vincet have known each other 'since forever'. I would have edited the timeline, but I wanted to check with the rest of the Hybrids in case I'm remembering wrong.

@re: TGF's Evil Doppelganger from Dimension Q

Given the last missive from TGF he's either IG or deliberately trollin'. Did the EMH crew drop even a slight hint either way?

@re: Who HABIT is

I think HABIT changes bodies. I don't believe that Evan=HABIT because when HABIT speaks (presumably the discussions with empty chairs are HABIT talking) it refers to Evan as a separate entity. It could so be that HABIT's sole host is Evan but I don't believe that either. I'm fairly sure that HABIT hops between, at least, Alex and Evan. Possibly others are affected as well.

It could be that HABIT isn't even an actual thing, but is rather a pattern of thought that can appear in anyone and is the product of either a traumatic event or memetic infection. This is just pure conjecture, of course, but take these things into consideration:

a) We already know that the minds of the Fairmount Four are compromised -- they Hidden Videos video demonstrates this. It is not much of a stretch to assume that some sort of memetic programming is involved.

b) Rabbits are being, well, possessed. Think about it. People all across the world (or at the very least, USA) are preforming bizarre actions that harm them. Why? HABIT made them do it. It could be that what Rabbits are going trough is a microcosm of the plot of EMH (or at least a part of it) -- loss of control due to a memetic infection.

c) The whole show is based around Internet memes come to life. Now, this could just be a healthy appreciation of crossovers and it is true that we've seen no mention of the Tulpa theory, but's certainly provocative at first blush.

N.B. I'm playing fast and loose with the definition of meme here. I trust my meaning is clear, even if my terminology is not.

ChildofAtom, I have a minor nitpick: Vinnie turned 19 in 2010, which means he was born in 1991.

Now this is an interesting theory. Not mind control but thought influence, and one that, the more we play, the more we support. So the more discussion we have, the more we keep up with EMH, the more of an edge we're giving HABIT. Also, it would very much make HABIT stand up to his name.

We need someone who's skipped Richard Dawkin's religious rants and read his actually scientific work to come in and discuss real memes with us....

I will admit some of the phantom tweets bordered on automatic writing, and made me think of some sort of raw psychological output from the unconscious, and that in turn made me think of the kind of memetic infection from the great underseen film Pontypool.. But I still think whatever the device, HABIT is an actual intelligence. The question for me is did he originate with Centralia Evan or any other human.

This has pretty much been the evaluation of TGF's videos since he started them. So far, EMH has said nothing. We should simply wait and see what happens with it before we delve backwards into wild theories, as seen several pages ago.

EDIT: Realizing that the last Corenthal Letter was dated Feb. 27th, what is the likelihood that there will be an EMH update on my birthday [the 28th]? :>

@re: memes

Well, real-world memes are tricky customers whose precise nature is hard to pinpoint. It all depends on the theory of mind you subscribe to and even then the degree to which we are virally programmed is a matter of some debate. I've read most of the stuff Dawkins wrote but it's been a while since I last read the Selfish Gene. I'm quite rusty on the actual science of it all.

However, I don't think this actually matters, for our purposes. We are dealing with fictionland memes, and those have, uh, very elastic properties, depending on the demands of plot. For my hypothesis to hold, EMHVerse would have to have very powerful memes that are capable of very powerful behavior modification and that can be transmitted easily. Something, perhaps, that resembles the (entirely fictional) Neurolinguistic Programing in Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash.

Even if we treat the process as a black box[1] it's influences on EMH can be summarized thus:

a) HABIT isn't a real entity so much as a dark side of the Fairmount Four -- possibly emerging because of the trauma of the Slenderpresence.

b) HABIT doesn't possess or mind control so much as it is a parasitic consciousness that opportunistically modifies the behavior of various characters.

c) HABIT wants us to think otherwise and to ascribe its existence to the purely supernatural.

d) HABIT wants to spread and is trying to turn rabbits into propagation vectors. Rabbits to HABITS. Huh. The method of doing this is entirely natural (within the fake memetics of EMHVerse we postulated a while back) and is replicated (lessened in power) in the Real World with the trials which actually do seem to control our[2] behavior for the worse.

Do I have any evidence for this? Nope. But I find the idea amusing and oddly fitting with the timbre of the show.

@qaqa

HABIT could be a real intelligence and not be a real entity. Imagine the situation to be a bizarre meld of DID and folie à deux turned really nasty and there you have it. If a real psychologist reads this: I'm sorry.

Further, if we want to get seriously nutty we could say that HABIT is a form of life/intelligence that exists as an epiphenomenon of memetic propagation -- it's environment would be other sentient minds and it would live in them parasitically. Such an entity may have evolved here (possibly under the influence of ol' Slendy) or it could come from wherever the hell Slendy comes from.

What? Quit staring at me like that. I did say 'seriously nutty'. Wink

@TNC

I'm not diving into wild theories. Well not about TGF, anyway. I did harbor suspicion that he made the videos without the intention to confound and as a joke. However with his latest messages it is clear that he's either been eaten by HABIT or has clearly trollish intentions.

[1] And we really should. There's no good way to talk about it without resorting to a particularly vile melange of technobabble and psychobabble.
[2] Well not mine. I'm no rabbit. Too busy.

Mmmm.... I think you are right, but the timing is still iffy... made an adjustment to the timeline that covers this. Thanks!
