XD I already said that.

I also got an email back from Ruthie talking about the map I requested!

Quote:
Dear Travis,

I believe I was just listening to your voicemail. Nice to meet you. Welcome to the Snow Town Library.

I invite you to join our virtual Book Club. Please keep an eye on the Snow Town Library Home Page for upcoming information. Until then, feel free to send along your suggestions for the Book Club. We are looking for short story titles.

Due to the many requests for a map of Snow Town, I will have Edward Harmon post a map to the new Historical Society page on our website. Edward promises to have a map up for you tomorrow.

Ah, so the Haynes are the third of the founding families!

How about you pretend to be a long lost ancestor along the Haynes side, your mother's side (hence why you have a different last name), and she never told you much before she passed away so you'd like more information.

Haha, I've never understood how to work an IRC client or how IRC channels work or anything but maybe I'll try to figure this out then.

And I'm still sort of interested how the message was actually deciphered... So if anyone knows more about that I'm interested in hearing.

I'll upload a JPG of my solution. It's messy though!

Edit

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
To explain what's going on here, I started by sorting out the notes without any symbols, They just so happed to be the main "chorus" of the song, I then color coded all the identical words so I could easily swap them in and out. Eventually I found the right combonation with the aid of this website! http://www.soundexp.com/history-of-love-songs-1

Here's the finished product.
http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h445/Paul_Young/GreenSleeves.jpg

For anyone wanting to do this on their own, I highly suggest finding a the best copy of the lyrics you can, I spend a good hour messing around with a different version of the lyrics, Wondering why I was getting gobldygook from my pigpen =/

After that all you do is take each of the symbols at the bottom and decrypt them using example 2 on this website Smile http://www.purplehell.com/riddletools/pigpen.htm

I think this is important - we need to send in the correct short story title.

I've sent in the suggestions:
- The Wisdom of Solomon (aka Book of Wisdom)
- The Lady of the Lake by Sir Walter Scott
- The Metamorphosis by Frank Kafka
- Land of the Williwaws by M.I. Ross

Diving In....

....to my first ARG.

Signed the guestbook and sent a few short story suggestions to Ruthie. Oh lord, what have I done??? Wink

Of course, I did this before reading everything here first. Doh! Time to play catchup....mayhaps the reading will help to still my shaking hands and pounding heartbeat!

Glad to be on board! (I think)

Ruthie's response

A bit of a disappointing response to my message to Ruthie:

Quote:
Dear David,

I invite you to come into the library. Someone on our volunteer staff will show you around. Our staff is more than happy to answer your questions. Until then, please read our website's Home Page. It is an excellent resource for the casual visitor.

I asked about the history of the library, and she seemed pretty closed mouthed about it. But it seems like there's a volunteer staff there, so there must be a lot of loyalty. Maybe it's her way of telling me I'm barking up a wrong tree?

Any thoughts on Peg's mounds?[/quote]

Peg has posted a new entry on snowtown.me

Apparently there's 4 snow mounds around Snow Town now.

It looks like a form response - it might be what they send out when they don't have time to answer in a personalised manner. They must be getting bombarded with emails right now!

On the other hand, perhaps we've missed something on the home page that she wants us to specifically look at?

She has said that Edward from the Historical Society would upload a map, so perhaps that will answer some of the questions you asked Ruthie once it goes up.

The howl page has been updated

Quote:
*Someone from Snow Town, or from your community, attempted to post the following mysterious message onto the Snow Town Library Guestbook: "If I enter the path north of the Snow Town meeting hall will it take me to the edge of the lake? And if so, what would I find there six days after the full moon?" I deleted it. I am curious. Does anyone know what this message means? Does anyone know someone named Denny? Or maybe it is an alias? If you have any information about this message, I would like to hear from you.*

I sent PrivateSnow an email detailing the meaning of this message.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

In response to the updated HOWL page, some skilled player from our community found a hidden message in the notes fred left in a basket for peg to solve http://www.snowtown.me/?p=237

With a little re-arranging, The note turn out to be 3 verses from "Green sleves", Here you can see them in order.

http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h445/Paul_Young/GreenSleeves.jpg

After taking each of the symbols at the bottom and using a technique known as a "pig cypher" to decode it, We discovered the following hidden message.

"Enter the path north of snow town meeting hall. You will find me near the edge of the lake six days after the full moon"

It's a little hard to tell, But that's either the 24'th or 25th.

I originally assumed this was a message from you, But judging from your surprise, It seem's you knew nothing about it, I would love to hear your thoughts on the matter. Would you be willing to go down to the lake on these dates?

I also sent an email to Ruthie asking about an online library card application, This was the response.

Quote:
Dear Paul,

Please come by the library tomorrow. Edward or Molly would be happy to help you.

I'm afraid The Lady of the Lake is not available. You will find our library is filled with other wonderful books. Edward is a big fan of the narrative poem. He should be able to find something to your liking.

That means that PrivateSnow has admin abilities on snowtownlibrary.org

Logically, that means PS is someone who works at the library.
I'm curious if it could be Edward?

We already know Private has admin privileges due to Howl and Spiral webspages off the library site. Could be Edward, but could also be a few others - here's a prior post with a list of characters that includes their relationship as far as we know to the library http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=809698#809698

Yes, I haven't seen this page either..

Haha I hadn't even thought that PrivateSnow was an admin, regardless of the howl page. I imagined him/her as some sort of hacker. Doesn't really fit the motif of the game though.. Thanks for clearing that up.
