yeah...not too sure. if they were literally old burial sites with mounds, Peg would have seen them before, and we are not aware of any disappearances recently in the area. Just the shape, the mound in a circular depression, rang a bell (hahaha...ahem). Then again, we are not sure who/what is coming, and how clever/evil/alive/dead/supernatural they may be. could just be a coincidence, but when you mentioned the cemetery anagram, i thought of it. and the fact the anagram is further linked with the moon is interesting...good work yourself!

 		oh yeah the other thing that i wanted to post...

so a when a person hears a bell ring with no discernible bell, a person could have tinnitus, which could be from loud noises, ear infection, or nothing at all really...

OR...

the more mysterious answer would be that it pertains to a fairy or a guardian angel revealing to a person. It may also mean a warning of an unforeseen danger.. dun dun duuuuuuuunn... =p!!

 		Peg has posted that the Snow Town church bells were ringing and driving everyone in her house crazy. She seems to think it has something to do with the No (new) Moon.

Also, I sent along a message to Private. "I can't hear Ruthie anymore" - was she screaming or yelling? Or was Ruthie maybe ringing the church bells?

Okay, I have no cred, I admit it: I wrote the trailhead article 5 days ago, come back to check in and realize there are like... mounds, and bells, and baskets, and what the heck is going on? :/

Can someone please do a quick but good Story So Far? I think it would help alot of the newer folks as well (and yes, me too). I feel like we don't do them any more.

I am not kidding! As I'm typing this, the Snow Town Church bells are going off! Walter, our dog, is howling as loud as he can at them! Story So Far:

2/18 - 2/26:
(even though this was solved out of order, I'm going to chronicle it in order.)

Snow Town Public Library
Over the weekend/past week, some uFers received overdue library notices from the Snow Town Public Library which contained a phone pad cypher.

Solving the cypher yielded the words "please help they're coming", which in turn led to a secret page on the Snow Town Library website entitled "Private". On this page is a series of circles, each half-colored in, arranged in a spiral pattern. Four of the circles are red. As explained by Enaxor, counting the first circle as "A" and following the spiral, the red circles spell out "Howl".

This leads to another secret page and a message from someone we are calling Private. The page contains a message from Private and a creepy poem by Ms. Louise Hoskins, former head librarian of Snow Town.

Stopping by the Snow Town Library Guest Book introduces us to some of the town's inhabitants. (Luci's List of Characters) Ruthie Randolph is the current Head Librarian, and she runs a book club that she will be opening up to online participation. Potential book club members were asked to submit their favorite short stories to the club. These are listed on the book club page.

There is a map of Snow Town posted on the Snow Town Library Historical Society page.

Private:
Private's part in this adventure began when he/she was cleaning out the Snow Town Library Vault last summer. It is uncertain how many people have access to this vault, but indications are that it is tightly controlled by Ruthie Randolph and Charles Gulliffer.

In a copy of Scott's "The Lady of the Lake", Private found a slip of paper containing a code, which deciphered into the poem "Howl" by Louise Hoskins, which is posted on the Howl page mentioned above.

On February 2nd, Private suffered a shocking event in the night when bells were heard in the cellar and the electricity was snuffed out by the storm. In returning to the vault, Private found that the book was missing. Someone dotted a spiral in the snow on Private's windshield. So Private sent out "overdue notices" to people that might be able to help decipher these strange happenings.

Peg and Fred Harmon
Another snow town resident, Peg, keeps a blog. Lately, during this year's snowpocalypse, her quiet home life has gone topsy-turvy. Her husband, Fred, has been behaving strangely. On Feb. 9, she woke up to find him gone, which was unusual. Peg went out to look for him, then spotted him running toward the lake. He disappeared, and his footprint trail ended at the edge of the frozen lake, as though he'd just disappeared. Then he called her on her cell phone, to find out where she was - he was at home! He said he'd heard bells and gone out to look for them. The next day, Peg thought she heard bells on her walk to the general store.

On Valentine's Day, Fred made Peg a strange gift, writing on many little scraps of paper. On the papers were words written in calligraphy, and there were also symbols. (See blog entry Fred's Basket Part 1, Part 2, Part 3)

It was determined that the words made up the song Greensleeves, and the markings were a pigpen cipher. The code yielded this message. Fred tells Peg that he doesn't know why he did it - he just felt like he had to. Fred also builds creepy snow people in the yard.

On February 19, the night of the full moon, Peg spotted Ruthie Randolph running past her house. She saw her again on the 20th, and got a video of her on the 23rd. It seems very likely that Ruthie is hearing the bells.

On Feb. 22, Peg began spotting odd snow mounds - perfect bell- or cone-shaped hills of snow in the middle of a circle. She has taken pictures of them and posted them on her blog, and also video. Fred has told her, "They're coming." but he won't say who. Creepy. So far, there are four mounds of snow like this in Snow Town.

Most Recent Events:
On the night of the 23rd, the Snow Town church bells began ringing. Private heard Ruthie outside yelling "They're coming!" and someone (Ruthie?) pounded on Private's front door. Peg's dog started howling when he heard the bells, and Fred began staring out the window into the snow.

Something is definitely going to happen in Snow Town "six days after the full moon", which is likely to be Friday, Feb. 25, if we go by Peg's journal which recorded a full moon on the 19th, but undoubtedly the 24th may bring some new mystery.

Feb. 24: Peg posted that the snow people had arrived. She had a picture of the one right outside her kitchen window.

Ruthie Randolph updated the STL website with the following message:

Peg had more pictures of the Snow People later in the day. Apparently, Ruthie has put together a librarian task force to see that no one goes near the Snow People.

We await the outcome of the town meeting at the library tonight.

Synthesis:
Questions directed to Private and Peg reveal information that points to Louise Hoskins as being somehow connected to these events. The Library is definitely connected. The three founding families -- The Hoskins, the Harmons, and the Haynes -- are involved somehow. The Lake is also a place with strong ties to the mystery, as that is where people seem to head when they hear the bells.

Also, who are "They" that are coming home?

It seems that this event has happened every 100 years since the founding of the Snow Town Library in 1811. Louise Hoskins died in 1911, the same year she wrote her poem after hearing the bells.

I'd like to know why it hasn't been included on the Historical Society's map. Exact location would be worth knowing (I'm guessing it's up at the Bone Orchard, but don't know for certain).

Could also ask who is buried there - is Louise Hoskins grave there? Does Private know how she died?
