This is exciting. It seems that the MH section of the UnForums is becoming split between two gangs.

Idiots and Idiots that the rest of us can't stand.

That being said, I love you idiots. Just not group two idiots.

Well, that's just idiotic.

*sigh*

One of the things I loved about this forum was the fact that everyone was mature and friendly.

Over the last few days it's started to look like 4chan on here.

Can we avoid the personal comments, insults and general unfriendliness and concentrate on Marble Hornets?

I couldn't agree more. Not saying I'm innocent when it comes to the goings on, but the past several days have gotten a little ridiculous.

The reason I started coming here was because I was interested in actually discussing things, but certain threads seem to have simply become a written game of whack-a-mole. Not exactly living the dream here.

Thanks to all those who maintained a certain amount of calm through all this.

This forum gets its occasional resurgence of trollish behavior. It's inevitable. The only difference time to time is how many people react to it. I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, but I lean towards the former, because it means as a forum I don't actually see us getting any worse than we were! Reading over threads from over a year ago to dig up dusty theories long left forgotten in Entry threads has been quite an experience, because I've got to see that the only difference in how snippy this forum gets over trolls is in the magnitude of the response. The bitchy behavior that sometimes comes up is cyclical and not itself indicative of any sort of permanent degradation of the quality of the forum.

Junk threads can quickly get out of hand if everyone and their sister chips in with some (sometimes duly warranted, sometimes not) snarky comment to the OP. Instead of responding, consider PMs; if someone's being an obvious troll, consider either PMing them or (if they've proved to be unmanageable like that equal_opposite douchebag some months ago) PMing a mod to come in and quietly deal with the situation. If you don't see anything that can be done, maybe stay out of it -- the less we post in them, the more quickly crap threads die.

this.
Also, not trying to get off-topic here (even though it doesn't matter since this thread isn't really important anyway) but when the hell are we getting another Entry? Or a TTA video. That's probably why everyone here is so pissed, we haven't gotten our weekly dose of MH. D:

in short: this post was useless, go read something else.

if you have 0 experience, then why dont' you read a few threads, and more importantly, the rules section before you start spamming up the boards. being new to discussion boards is really no excuse to be an idiot. just stop doing what you were doing (trolling up in this place) and move on. i think we all know that you're new now, but you keep digging youself into a bigger hole with every stupid post you've made by now

We probably can't trust Alex. Not because he's totheark (he isn't), but because he's a fucking psycho. He tied Tim up and crushed his leg with a rock after being denied the opportunity to stab him.

^^ This, as well as JKat's response of awesomeness.

I think a large portion of the activity here in the past few months has been from the Boot and newly-christened Veteran members, so we're all relatively new to this. Some are better at handling 'forum etiquette' than others, and while I roll my eyes every time I see a new thread that really doesn't need to be up, I know at the very least that we've got one new contributor to the theorizing, puzzle-solving, and nit-picking this board is all about.

That doesn't really excuse the trolls, but they exist on every popular forum (and even a few unpopular ones...) and they eventually either get bored or being ignored or make so much of a mess they get banned. (Anyone but me thinking of the 'Parental Controls' thread from earlier this week ?) There are quite a few new posters who, although they may not have read through the Forum Rules and may have irritated some of us with making new threads for things that already have threads or for reviving old/outdated theories, but so far it seems like a few of them genuinely want to participate and are just putting themselves out there.

Like JKat pointed out, a PM is a lot more useful in those situations than posting back to them angrily or rudely on their threads. In fact, I've seen it highlighted several times when I first joined (although not much lately...) to just ignore threads that are either a) trolls or b) unneccessary threads so that when Mods find them, it's easier to just delete or lock them. If anything, responding to those threads is breaking the 'rules' just as much as posting them in the first place.

I know I'm mostly repeating previously-stated things and probably come off as a bit of a peacenik, but it's genuine - I liked being welcomed into this forum. I took very tepid steps into it, which probably helped, but for those who tend to dive in, they're just as valuable and worthy of welcome as the more cautious newbies, and pointing them in the right direction in a PM right off the bat is probably the thing they need (and want) most.

TL;DR - LOVE EVERYBODY! Very Happy
