That story is told in First Strike, the third Halo novel. The article is completely wrong, however, that MC, Fred, Will, Linda, and Grace (who gets killed on that mission) destroy the fleet a Month after the first game ends. In actuality, thanks to the artifact on Reach, they destory the fleet about 10 days before Halo is blown to bits.

Sorry I mean Vilnius, Where did you come up with the idea that the covenant fleet was destroyed by The spartan team Before Halo was destroyed?

actually i had the book sitting next to my computer so i did a little looking and vilnius is almost correct. the covenant fleet was destroyed on september 13th 2552 at 1825 hours. Halo was destroyed shorty before 1637 hours on September 22 2552. If the first date is correct then the covenant invasion fleet was detroyed 9 days before Halo was destroyed. But the date of the fleets destruction may not be correct. the Forerunner crystal affecting slipspace may have caused problems with the chronogarphy on the ship. I don't recall this being verified in the book. if it was please give the page number or chapter I can reference.

yeah, this has been discussed at HBO and other places. There is a time warp here. It's pretty confusing, because it could potentially mean that halo 2 starts before halo 1 ends, in terms of actual dates, but in terms of the plot, it is quite a bit later.

It also means that in halo 2 it is entirely possible that you might visit the SAME halo, do whatever it is you do, and leave, the point in time that Halo 1 starts.

If nothing else, that explains why guilty spark thinkes he has seen you before...

There is one other spartan alive that they do not talk about as the other book readers know. Kelly is with Dr. Halsey, leader of the Spartan II program.

Time? Yeah, it was messed with by the forerunner crystal artifact.

Just got through with the First Strike so it's still fresh in my mind. Great book.

wait wait wait...so there was a timewarp?

Yeah, the crystal artifact, in addition to possibly a million other things, warps time when in slipspace. I think the most relivant set of pseudo-quotes goes somethign like this (no, I don't have a copy of the book, so correct me if necessary):
Cortana: "Prepare for exit of slipspace in 25 minutes"
12 minutes later - "Exiting Slipspace"
MC: "Cortana, you said it'd be at least another 13 minutes until exit..."
Cortana: "Well, this artifact is warping time in slipspace"

It also appears to warp the appearance of distance, as well as the way Cortana can "see" the slipspace openings when she's preparing to make a jump.

Actually, it could be said that in addition to Kelly, there are three other Spartans alive (possibly) that are unaccounted for.
