2 cameras?? So what's the deal, why the two different super 8 cameras?
1: the camera he breaks
2: the camera he uses during the day time
Any thoughts?

The second one will be a replacement for the broken one. One of the first shots in the trailer is of them cycling over the road towards a camera shop.

Yeah people are thinking that, either: He left it and the government got hold of it.
OR
He left it, went back there and found it later, but the camera was still broken, only the film survived

I don't think the film can be transferred to another camera. I could be wrong.
Wikipedia has the following info -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_8_mm_film
Kodak Super 8 mm cartridges cannot be reloaded; however, a reloadable cartridge was manufactured in the Soviet Union.
Unless.....they had a Soviet film hmmmmmmmmmmm
EDIT
Incase you want to see one, I found one here -
http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/kaccema-reloadable-super-movie-75527361
Apparantly they are very rare.

Yes, I seem to recall this from my Super8 — I think the idea was the prevent reloading of film cartridges to help people not double expose their reels accidentally. If memory serves...

Some of the pictures realesed on the 20th had the train crash image in the background... Doesnt that mean that they are double exposed?
Maybe they tried to tape over some old film of those scientists at the lab. And those images are what they got?

I remember reading somewhere that there is a way to double expose super 8 film but only the middle section of it, not the beginning or end of the film. I'll try and find the link and put it up.
So it is possible that it could be double exposed, I think some of the shots are.
It is also possible there was only one film that was transferred to a second camera, but this means the film used would have to be the rare Soviet version.
I think it is more likely that it would be the traditional film that cannot be reloaded, but who knows!

I believe you're right, in that one could theoretically rewind the film once exposure had begun, but before it 'locked' at the end. You'd just have to take it out of the camera in a dark room and manually handcrank it back, then reinsert the film.
Given such imprecise handling, it would be tough to create any double exposure "special effects" with any frame-count accuracy, but I think generally it could be accomplished as you describe, Michelle.

I think Im more inclined to go with this theory.
The kid in the movie is not Josh Minker. Josh Minker will not be a central part of the actual movie.
But rather, the kid took the film of the creature dropped the camera.
The guvmint got a hold of it- turned it over to scientists.
Mr. Minker, Sr was one of those scientists, who realizes what he has- and that the govmint wants it to be destroyed, but its not something that should be destroyed... he takes the film and whatever else and high tails it.
He gives the film to Josh without josh realizing what it is and then goes into hiding - going back to Lillian to try and help the kids/townspeople before going into seclusion for good.

Jon;
Recall in the chat where Josh said he'd been given a "scrap" of film from the cannister?
I think it was cut up, divided, and given to ones involved.
