Homefront Code needs crackin at G4

G4 received a cipher message related to the upcoming Homefront game. Anyone want to take a crack at this?

Quote:
G4 received a bit of viral marketing with North Korean stamps on it today, leading us to suspect that THQ is teasing us with some Homefront tidbits. The two plain brown envelopes we received contained a CD with the above image and this piece of audio from the future, where Adam Sessler has clearly used his recognizable face and presence on television and the web to round up insurgents to fight the North Korean Army in the United States. Although that doesn't happen until 2027, so breathe easy.
Also included was a piece of paper with a code on the front and back of it. Since we aren't Russell Crowe in A Beautiful Mind, we're going to need your help cracking it. Everything you need should be right here after the break, so read on and help us decipher the mystery of the numbers.

Quote:
Here's the mysterious code we received in the first envelope. There are numbers on both the front and the back. We thought the back might contain a key to breaking the code on the front, but it is 25 numbers, and not 26, which would be the same amount of numbers as the alphabet. Plus, several of the numbers are repeated.

Quote:
The envelope the code came in had this clue written on the back. Note that it doesn't say "The Guide is the key." Instead, the k in key is replaced by the copyright symbol. The guide is the copyright?

So Zazzle allows you to print KOREAN stamps?!? That's good to know... Wink

With the copyright symbol and "Guide" being capitalized, my first thought would be a book cypher. But somehow it doesn't look like we have enough information for that.

Yeah, I was thinking it was a simple substitution, once we figure out what letter corresponds with a number it would be k=c or something, but so far I haven't had luck with this.

I was looking into this, and the main bulk appears to be a correspondence, in which case the last bit: -5 33 37 96 15 15 70 would be a signature. Given the Adam Sessler is supposed to be the rebel leader, I thought that may be related... So, I hope that helps at all.

Not sure if this helps much, but the signature in the larger code text is also the very last segment of the smaller code text. Once the signature is deciphered maybe yuo can solve the smaller code and use that as a key.

Those look like QR codes on the 'stamps'. Is that just part of the Zazzle signature (Never used Zazzle myself) or do they need to be decoded?

I'm pretty sure the guide they are referring to is the little booklet that can be found here :
http://www.homefront-game.com/index.html#/timeline
on page 16 (year 2025)

There is no copyright symbol in the booklet as far as I can tell.
So far I have been looking at text passages that had patterns similar to those in the numbers, but I didn't see any obvious correlation yet.

Further confirmation that the booklet is referred to as guide can be obtained from the video on this page :

Looks like some guy on twitter got the same envelope. They had it deciphered by the 21st but seem to have also found a link for google maps additionally to the image of the chip.
Google maps link :

Also according to one of them the korean title of the document says :

I tried my best to solve it, but I'm glad better minds beat me to it. I went back to figure out the reasoning for the numeric substitution, and there is a pattern which may explain the copyright symbol:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1 = C
3 = O
4 = P
5 = Y
6 = R
7 = I
362 = G (there is no 8 in the code)
9 = H
10 = T

12 = U
15 = E
23 = B
28 = L
33 = A
37 = N
39 = S
...

It's not completely clear to me what they intended here.

Yeah, no real idea on the basis for the code. Minz: He's the community manager at destructoid.com, surprised I didn't see it posted there since I get everything on that site in my rss. Good find though.
