I got a new reply from Edward, but now he's sober he's no fun:

Quote:
Dear Miss Temple,

Please accept my apologies for my behavior last evening.  I was clearly not of right mind.  You must understand it is not my normal course to be so forward or casual with a stranger.  I am deeply sorry.

Could you please keep this correspondence between us?  Snow Town is a small village.  I would hate for anyone find out about this mishap.  Please, forget what I said last night.  I had been drinking spirits.  Most of what I shared is pure gibberish.

Sincerely,

Edward Harmon

Sounds like he'll be more than willing to answer any questions you have now.

It had crossed my mind to blackmail him for info, but I wasn't sure whether the threat of his silliness being revealed to others at snow town was big enough threat... will think on it.

Friday 4th of March - party at L.Hoskins!!!

With all this partying, I'm surprised there's time for anything as sedate as a book club.

I have been trying to suss out more info about the Librarian Code of Ethics that is mentioned a couple times on the Snow Library website.

First I mentioned that I had admired the strong stance of intellectual freedom on the Snow Library in a private email to Ruthie. I then asked if they would put the Code up on their website. That email was ignored (I know it was read because Ruthie added my short story suggestion of Bloodflowers to the list).

I then tried a different approach, taking on the name of Mrs Umbridge and writing how disgusted I was with the library's selection of such an amoral story.

Ruthie's response is now on Guestbook and it is both chilling and hilarious:
"I will toast to the small minded Mrs. Umbridge this evening. A rare and valuable sherry would be the perfect gesture. May you rest in peace. "

I also tried the Librarian Code of Ethics angle - http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=811220#811220

This morning I wrote to Edward asking for more info on the history of Snowtown.

Quote:
Mr. Harmon,

I am am contacting you in hopes that you might be able to help me with some information about Snowtown.

What I am looking for is any materials that have to do with the settling and founding of Snowtown. I know that settlers of the three founding families first arrived at the land now known as Snowtown around 1710. Outside of that I don't know much else. Are there any books, videos, recordings or electronic material that you could share with me in my research?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Sincerely,

Billy Shun

Here is his reply:
Quote:
Dear Mr. Shun,

We are happy to help you. Due to the increased interest in the Snow People, the Snow Town Historical Society has decided to post a special presentation. Please keep an eye on our Historical Society's page on the Snow Town Library's site. The upcoming presentation will honor these rare lunary beings.

Sincerely,

Edward Harmon
Snow Town Historical Society's Ambassador

Has anyone received any emails from Private in the last couple days? The last email from Private I remember was just a long string of "yay snow people!" (well, the equivalent). You don't respond to every email with "yay snow people" and then just STOP ANSWERING EMAILS.

I got this earlier this afternoon as a follow up to a previous email. I guess PP is buying into the whole "let's party till we drop", thing.

Dear Enaxor,

The gathering was incredible! Everyone is so excited about the Snow People! Ruthie read the Snow People Decree! We toasted to the Snow People with a wonderful scotch Ruthie provided! The partying played on until the next morning for some of us! I had barely recovered from Ruthie's party and found myself off to celebrate again! Don't worry, Enaxor, the Snow People are here! There is nothing to fear! Raise a glass! Imbibe! Love! Laugh! Obey the Snow People Decree!

Imbibed Edward

Yay, drunk Edward sent me another email. I like him drunk. Razz

Quote:
Lovely Luci is back and she's showing her bad-ass self! Look at you! Meow! "It would be terrible if Ruthie put two and one together and..." blah blah blah, Lovely Luci! You can't embarrass me! I've been imbibing again and dancing on tables at the General Store! I'm a little drunk but not quite as drunk as last night and I can't be embarrassed. I do have my wits about me a bit. wink wink. You want facts, Lovely Luci? I can give you facts, but I won't be the one who will need to be glancing over my shoulder. You do not understand what goes on in this town. You are not a member of any of the H families. Ok Ok. Here's some top secret information for you. Louise did have 3 suitors. One of the suitors was a man named William. He was Clare Triplet's great Uncle. William and Louise fell deeply in love the week the Snow People came to Snow Town. In the end their love turned deadly. Deadly. Not pretend or movie deadly. Deadly. Like dead dead. I honestly don't know the details of what happened because I do not have access to the box of slates in the vault. Ah yes! The box of slates! But I do know they both disappeared the same week the Snow People left in the winter of 1911. If you want to know the big secrets of Snow Town and the Snow People, you need to find a way to those slates. Everything is written on them. The writing on the slates started with Job and now the hand is with my Uncle Fred. Do you understand? This isn't something you can bully out of Ruthie or the others in her tight circle. They won't allow it. They will do anything to protect those slates and the secrets of the town. The only way you could possibly find out how to get to the slates might be the Magician. I don't know the identity of the Magician. Nobody does. Nobody has ever seen him, but he's here. He's everywhere. Find a way to him and ask for his help. Now that I've told you my secrets, this might mean you're getting your green card. Do you like cold weather, Luci?

NightNight

LOL

Down to business - FRED is the special contact to the Snow People.

Interesting that even Edward doesn't have access to the slates in the vault - this is obviously what we need the most.

Edward says that the Magician will help us - however, the magician told us that he'd told us all he knew and we should seek out someone else. Edward says he doesn't have access to the slates, but Ruthie says he is in charge of the stuff in the vault. All very contradictory, who to believe?

Maybe while everyone is at one of the party's Peg could break into the vault? Or can she get Fred to give her access? Clare might also have access, Peg said she is nice.s

Drunk Edward is awesome - great job of drawing him out, Luci!

Looking at the pictures of the snow people's eyes, I started wondering if the patterns might correspond in some way to the dots on Clare Triplet's map of the town:

I haven't found anything yet, but it's just a thought.

Hey guys, another new player here. Hope I'm not too late to the party. Wow, that was the longest nineteen pages ever.

Looking more closely at the pattern of dots on the map, the places where dots aren't seem to indicate buildings or similar landmarks. Don't think that's been mentioned before, but I still doubt its relevance.

The patterns on the Snow People's faces are confusing. They're slightly different in the way that a child would build four snowmen and attempt to make the same pattern with rocks on each of them. And yet, despite the different patterns they all have fourteen rocks. Not sure if there's significance in the difference but I'll have to have a closer look at them. From memory, they strike me much like a line being "rolled up" at both ends, perhaps placing them in order from most to least "taut" could yield something. Or maybe I'm trouting all over the place. Again, I'll need to have a good hard look.

Now I'm done embarrassing myself, I honestly think this is as far as we'll get for now. All our contacts are insane, unhelpful, or Edward who's likely to pull his head in after letting slip like that twice. In a few days is the virtual book club, which will certainly open up contact to the half of the cast we haven't been able to talk to and probably some new characters. I guess I'll go look at source code.

Just a thought. I wonder if we should be taking this text from the Snow Library's homepage, *literally* :

"The spirit of Louise Hoskins lives on in her great grand-niece, Ruthie Randolph, Snow Town's Head Librarian."

Coffee Edward does give good gab when he's thoroughly "imbibed" & there's a major update on The Historical Society Page

ETA:Also, Peg just updated her blog with interesting news and a bit of gossip.

So the Snow People did come one at a time after all. My first suspicion would be that the apparent intruder was cursed, but if each Snow Person came to be in that way, someone would have disappeared earlier in the story to become the fourth Snow Person. It doesn't appear so, but it remains a possibility. Don't forget what Magician said, the Snow People are no Teletubbies.

Aside from that, evidence grows that the Snow People are benevolent guardians of Snow Town. The only thing wrong is their unnatural effect on the townsfolk.

And hey, Ruthie being open. Imagine that. She must be lying. She doesn't give up secrets that easily. We've been trying to get her to open up about the Snow People for a while to no avail, and what she said contradicts Magician, who I think is quite trustworthy.

Then the Song of the Bells book. What's up with the bottom left part? The letter L?

Also posted a comment on Peg's blog on a whim. Provided Fred or the Historical Society doesn't stop her from scanning the pieces of paper, it looks like time to decode stuff again. Maybe they're the same ones Private got, with the spiral and the "odd letters"? We never did learn what was on the other side of Private's piece of paper.
