Just some thoughts to throw out there.

There was a mention that Louise H did something the snow people didn't like. She dissappeared. 100 years later another snow person appeared, now up to 4. Every 100 years it seems they come around, but for some reason they end up leaving and the nixt time their numbers has increased by one.

I just finished watching "Storm of the Century" and in the end the newcomer wants a young one to be an apprentice of sorts. Similiar to adding another snow person.

The last party on the calendar is at LH's house and is the final night before the new moon.

The snow people decree says the bell will be rung every hour on the hour.

If we want to save Peg and the others, I think we should keep in mind we should find a way to stop the snow people. Maybe by stopping the town folk from ringing the bell.

About the L, it might mean something but more likely it is just because of the tape holding the Spine label on the book. I actually work in a library so I see it all the time.

Oh, I see now. It does look like tape.

Dunno about stopping the bells from being rung at this stage. There's still so much we don't know, and it's very possible that keeping the bells from being rung would upset the Snow People and make something bad happen. For now we should probably gather clues and help make sure nobody makes the Snow People angry should the need arise.

Oh, lookie here. I found this in the guestbook.

Private told us on the Howl page she "translated the gibberish into the poem, Howl, by Louise Hoskins" & an email from Peg.

Peg Harmon in an email wrote:
Oh my God, Ama! That is wicked scary about Louise Hoskins! What happened to her? I saw Edward last night at Clare's party. He didn't mention any of this to me. You know, the part about Louise could be true. I don't know enough about her to say one way or another. But trust me, Fred is not involved in anything to do with any slates! I would know! I've never ever heard of these slates! Yeah, I know Fred did that weird writing on the slips of paper. Oh my God! I'm getting freaked out by this. Fred can't be involved! He's never been near that vault! This whole idea of a Snow Town deep dark secret is giving me a chill up my spine! And now we
gotta get back in touch with the Magician? Are you kidding me? I suppose
you guys are gonna want me to put a note in his bucket and take it back down to the lake! Oh my God! I gotta go sit down and think about all this. Edward doesn't usually talk so much. He must have been drunk
when he wrote your friend. Oh my God! Did you read my blog? Ruthie does have three guys she's hanging out with right now. The entire town is talking about it. I'm going to go take a deep breath and maybe close my eyes.

Poor Peg! It's alot to process but her bucket idea does sound pretty cluey. Laughing

Oh, blame my ignorance about the gibberish.

...Ruthie's hanging out with three guys? Uh-oh... things just turned bad.

And now, I'll get some sleep.

Note pages from LH posted to snowtown.me

Some of the letters have small x's under them which spell out
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

We must stop the snow people
and on the second page there are just 3 letters -
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
nht - which must be the initials of Natasha Haynes Triplet

I've emailed Peg to see if she can talk to Natasha about it and I'll let you know what she comes back with.

I had just come here to post the same thing. Laughing I think they are definitely someone's initials. I think the letter itself is interesting too. Looks like we might have to convince Peg to go through the Bone Orchard. Looks like there is a trail beyond it. I wonder if that's were this thing will lead us?

By the way, I asked Edward if I could come to his party. I have an invitation now. Very Happy

Good afternoon, Ruthie. It was so nice to see you cut loose last evening! Clare was a wonderful hostess, wasn't she? I wanted to let you know I will be attending your Snow Town virtual Book Club virtually. I will be here at my computer with a glass of Merlot. Whiskey gives me gas. Sherry gives me a headache.

Sure others will have found this but the only thing entitled "Men who march away' I can find is a poem, the postscript to the 1st edition of the collection "Satire of Circumstance -Lyrics and Reveries" by Thomas Hardy.

Unsure if the title points to it's inclusion being the PM having a dig at us trying to follow up on 'circumstantial' leads or not...can't decide. Not found anything specific in it at the moment, but a few of the poems have titles which relate to the game, or at least to questions we have asked...some very closely, others more coincidentally perhaps. Or maybe it's a red herring.....here's some of the titles, there are many more in the book:

The Ghost of the Past
After the visit
Lost Love (?Louise and her 3 suitors?)
In Death Divided (same annotation as above?!)
The place on the Map
By her aunt's grave
In The cemetery
In the Moonlight
The Moon Looks in
Her Secret

a site with the full book transcribed can be found

Well, no doubt we were going to ask Peg to go to the Bone Orchard soon anyway. Now I'm really interested in what might be around Louise's grave... though I've a mind to give poor Peg some time to calm down. Perhaps some reassuring words are in order, if she's literally shocked to the point of fainting.

Um... can someone transcribe the notes? I can't read Louise's handwriting.

If I didn't know any better, some text size has been changed on the Book Club page, most notably in The Cask of Amontillado. There's also a space in front of The Yellow Wallpaper... and span tags in the source code that don't seem to do anything? I don't get it. Most likely this all means nothing anyway.

My Dear Friend,

I have but a few minutes as Jeziah Harmon will call upon me before the sunsets. The weather is a good deal milder today. The Snow People seem to prosper even under the warmth of the bright sun. I continue to visit them daily and see little change in their sweet cherub shape. My belief gains strength each day. A magical spell has been cast over Snow Town. Suddenly the awakened sleeper embraces the day. As Citizens of Snow Town we abide to the Snow People Decree. As founders it is our duty to carry out the custons of our forefathers and foremothers.

William Haynes has been difficult to convince. Jeziah and I spent last evening and morning with him. He has at last agreed to enter the lower spiral tonight. We will follow the directions of Job's slate. I have never walked beyond the Bone Orchard. I am quite anxious but take comfot knowing I am not the first Hoskins to take the journey.

L. H.

Men Who March Away

Sorry all, this is Andrew Dolson, and I posted my question on the Library earlier today, and the subject, a collection of WWI poetry--book I actually am missing--hasn't anything to do with the mystery. Didn't mean to sidetrack anyone.

I've read through all 20 pages, and I believe I'm caught up. I've been following along on the library page and Peg's blog for the past few days, so I apologize if I've missed anything, but... has anyone figured out the significance of the red x's on the library calendar? Has anyone asked one of the characters they're in contact with about them? I just don't want to reinvent the wheel by heading down that path.

Do we have any updates about Private? All I can figure out is he/she is very strongly affected by the Snow People, attends church, drives, is seemingly of high rank in both the Snow Town Library and the Historical Society, and most likely lives alone. I may email Peg to ask her who was acting oddly before the Snow People came like Fred and Ruthie.

My prime suspects are Edward and Molly. Edward and Molly both work at the library, Edward is tech savvy and Molly took a web design course (should be easy for them both to slip hidden pages onto the library site), and Edward is described as "quiet" (and certainly seemed to be before the Snow People came and he started drinking and partying) while Molly doesn't seem to have much social presence in Snow Town (I think her name's only come up once on Peg's blog), so either could have said they felt "out of the loop".

Then they both have individual matching qualities. Private's change from quiet to overexcited party animal lines up with Edward's pretty well. Molly is more likely to be "from away" since she could have married into the Harmon family. I believe she pretty much confirmed this in the guestbook at one point with mention of a brother-in-law. Also:

"You might ask Mollie Harmon. She loves going to church and is very involved over there." Despite the misspelling, that's some compelling evidence.

We need to ask Peg more about Molly and the as-of-yet enigmatic general store owner. Julie, was it?
