[Trailhead] Find Makarov Countdown for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 A countdown for the upcoming MW3 game launched today at http://www.findmakarov.com
It isn't anything yet, but I figured I'd post it here just in case.

Just to be clear, the quote in its entirety from what I can tell is:
Quote:
"There seems to be a great deal of speculation about the next Call of Duty project. Let me be clear that we are not revealing yet," a spokesperson told Kotaku. "Anything indicating otherwise is a hoax."
Carefully worded. If the countdown isn't a reveal to the game, then this is true. This is not saying that the countdown is a hoax or not run by Activision, only that anything saying they "are revealing" is a hoax.
Always read the fine print in carefully worded official responses.
This is why they often simply reply "we don't comment on rumours" =P
Now, of course, the site could still be a hoax. However, the wording doesn't make that a fact, one can only infer that meaning.

While I don't doubt Activision in that there is no MW3 reveal coming, part of me thinks (hopes?) this is more then a hoax. Sending dog tags to gaming sites seems like a fair amount of work for a hoax. Also this feels a little familiar to how the viral game for Black Ops started, sending clues to gaming sites, although this is far more obvious then what they did for Black Ops. Long story short, I'm hoping something good happens, but expecting nothing.

Website has changed. Now a red radar with dots. I can't recognize any land mass.
Quoting from PCGamer:
Quote:
The new information comes courtesy of Spike TV journalist Geoff Keighley, who has done some digging and revealed that the countdown was created by We Can Pretend, a team from Toronto working on a Call of Duty inspired project. Keighley said that "production sources who worked on the self-funded project call it visually spectacular."

The Flash file is named "MW2.SWF", so that should be an indication of something.
By my count, it appears to be counting down to 10am Eastern Time on March 2nd.

The site links to a youtube video, its a live action Modern Warfare trailer. It doesn't get interesting until the last minute or so.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The end shows Soap and Price jumping on what appears to be Moscow to find Makarov and end the war.

Cool video. Live action scenes taken straight out of the games. Love the knife throw that ends Shep.
I guess this is not an ARG then.
