[OT] Newbie in search of Mentor

I'm pretty sure a lot of the Veterans around here are just a little peeved by the amount of noobs this Halo 2 stuff has brought around, so I thought I'd be the first to thank the admins and mods and veterans for letting us participate in these games. I see myself getting very interested in this, and any more ARG's I may discover as I become more and more ingrained in this community that has sparked my interest in ARGs and set it off into wildfire proporitons. I would also like to see if any of the more seasoned members of the community would like to take me as their "Apprentice" as you would say, to show me the ropes and give me some insight into how I can avoid being trouted as much as possible.

I can offer a great ability to speculate and theorize along with a sharp mind, keen ability in critical thinking and 5+ years of online roleplaying to whoever wishes to take me up on this ofer. My contact info is as follows:

thenextmovementSPLATgmail.com and
ThaNextMovement on AIM.

Or just respond to this thread.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the game. I am definitely not a veteran in this, being my first ARG, and only being with this game for about a week. I'm not really so sure you need someone to help you, I am sure you will pick up on this rather quickly, using sources like the wiki and the begginer's guides on these forums. I do want to say one thing though, not taking any credit away from the veterans and mods (who seriously deserve it for dealing with us newbs), but this is a game that everyone is allowed to play. No one has to allow you to participate, and I am sure we all believe the more people participating here the better. I hope to hear more from you in the future.

Couldn't have said it better myself. It's a very welcoming, open community, whether you lurk on boards, participate in IRC chat, or solve every damn puzzle there is. There is no right way or wrong way to play these types of games -- unless you break common sense rules like brute forcing a login, or talking about obscene things in chat. Just enjoy yourself and have fun.

That being said, you are now allowed to play. Very Happy

Every one of us was a noob once. It looks a little overwhelming to somebody just joining the ARG world 'cause a BUNCH of us were noobs at the same time, when Beast started.

But newcomers are always welcome.

The Word is...Community!

The feel I've been getting (thought I haven't interacted much, personally...) from the forums is that, well, we're kinda "apprenticed" from the get go.

As novices, liable to have missed important events that came before us, inexperienced with the interface, and unaware of the vagaries of the the board's search, we'll make mistakes. And when we do, if we've been acting in good faith, we'll likely be given some trout to munch on and sent on our way.

In that sense, every one who reads our post becomes a potential teacher, help to cure our errant, noobish, ways.

I, for one, would like to also thank this community for making my transition from Halo fan to ARGer a relatively painless one. I'll try to make dealing with me a painless experience as well.

Thank you,
Luke P.

My first suggestion would be to never post your email address on this site, or if you do, spell it out like "thenextmovement at gmail dot com". Spiders love this site, and you don't want to give tham an invitation.

I suffer a similer plight(sp?), I don't know where to start, it seems like i have walked into the middle of everthing, it seems everthing has started to the point where catching up isnt an option (ReGeneration, urbanhunt, ect.) I not a halo 2 person though (though I kinda get whats going on in ilovebees.com, i dont know what i can do to progress the game i've just been folowing it at this point). If anyone could guide me to something to get started with, it would be greatly appreciated.
Right now im waiting for Orbital Colony to start, so i can come in at the beginning, and also waiting for project syzgy(sp?).
any help would be appreciated
