Ooo. I don't like it at all. But I don't know if we have a choice. What if Ruthie refuses to help at all? A from helps heart I spit at thee thing, you know?

We don't know what she's willing to do if she doesn't get her way...

Could someone please take a bucket of hot water and/or some well-placed boot kicks to a Snow Person? This tension is killing me.

Ruthie has agreed to join us. She also agreed to hand over the Hoskins' staff. I am kinda surprised, but there it is. Ruthie did ask one thing from us. She wants to see the markings on the staffs and then wants us to give her 12 hours to do some Society rite in the woods. I asked her what it is and she said she only knows to look on the staffs. What do you guys think?

Oh and Lawrence is coming along to video tape it for his documentary and for you guys.

That's not all for today folks!

Remember, NHT told us we have to help keep Peg strong to help see her through what she has to do. I don't think she should let Ruthie do anything with staffs. I reminded her what NHT told her.

NHT wrote:
"I have the Society's Slate. I have Fred. I need the two of you to be ready to go to the Lower Spiral on a moment's notice." "It is your duty to Snow Town and to the Snow People. One Haynes, one Harmon and one Hoskins were selected by the Society to enter the Lower Spiral and retrieve each family's staff. It is you two and Ruthie. You must enter the Spiral and bring out the staff left behind by your founding family. I will be going with you to the Lower Spiral. I will not enter the Lower Spiral, but you will hand over the 3 staffs to me before we return to town. " "In return for the 3 staffs, I will give the Society's Slate back to you. You will get your family's staff back 3 days after the New Moon."

Are we seriously entertaining the thought that Ruthie is going to give up that staff? There's no way! She'll bonk someone over the head with it and take off with the other two staffs and the slate. Where has she been for the last 24 hours besides probably kidnapping and killing NHT?

This is bad. Very bad. I don't like it. I think Ruthie needs to stay as far away from the staff as possible - get that other Hoskins lady from town to go down the spiral.

Got this message 7hrs ago (while I was sleeping):

Edward wrote:
Dear Luci,

My mind is racing around in a circle this morning. No sleep.

I was at Tom Haynes' party last evening. Ruthie never showed up. The party was fun, but around 10 o'clock the wind began to howl. Most everyone laughed it off and continued to imbibe, laugh and love. I could not. Not only could I not continue to imbibe, but I was struck sober and a feeling of dread crept into me.

I left Tom's place before 11 and walked toward town. As I approached Flurry Street, the church bells rang out into the wind. The wind was so intense that I could barely lift my head to look forward. Coming down Flurry to the Tempest fork, the church bells seemed to get louder, but not because I was nearer. Their ringing sounded violent, like banging, and went on much beyond the usual 11 tolls. I admit to you it frightened me. It frightened me so much that I rushed away from it, down Flurry Street toward my home. As I went by the Snow Town General Store, I heard the bells and then screaming behind me. I should have turned around and sprinted to see what was happening, but I didn't. I ran away from it as fast as my feet would take me. When I got to the Williwaw Bridge, I stopped and looked out over the pond. This sounds ridiculous, but I saw the Snow People moving across the footbridge. Four of them. The moved across the footbridge and down Drift Drive toward the lake. As I turned to sprint away down Flurry, Clare Triplet nearly ran me over. She went around the corner of Flurry and Williwaw! I yelled to her, but she kept going! I took a deep breath and ran the rest of the way home. I locked the doors the moment I got home and sat at my piano until the sun came up. I didn't play. I just sat there and stared down at the keys. It was the only place I felt safe.

Tom Haynes came by early this morning. He told me I must meet with the Society at the Library at 11 this morning. I suppose it is about the Lower Spiral and the Slate. I am ready to walk the Spiral whenever Aunt Peg calls.

Sincerely,

Edward Harmon
Snow Town Historical Society's Ambassador

I also got Ruthie's email. Main problem I see with Ruthie is the time's she's suggesting

NHT was clear about the time needed

They need to go down the Spiral earlier in the day than Ruthie is suggesting!

Yeah, it's 4:38PM on 3/3 right now... NHT said at least 24 hours before the new moon, which Ruthie is correct about: 3:46PM on 3/4. We're already too late... I wonder what that means... Maybe that's why Ruthie is willing to participate so easily - she knows we don't have time to finish the task NHT gave us.

I just got this e-mail from Peg:

Quote:
Please tell the others I'm not giving Ruthie the staffs! I will say I'm
going to and then I'm running for it! We only have 24 hours to do
whatever it is that needs to be done! And as Luci just pointed out, we
have less than 24 hours now! Will be in touch with you guys as soon as I
can!

It means nothing yet; they have until nightfall to procure the staves. Even if the new moon is technically at 3:46, it won't come into effect until nightfall.

Also: Have we decided on someone to pick up the Lady of the Lake book? We need to decide on that right away, and my vote is for Edward. He's as changed as Private and he's ready to help us. If no one tells me why I shouldn't, I'm going to reserve the book under Edward's name.

That depends... technically the rising of the moon in EST began at 3:46. The moon's gravity is currently altering tides in this time zone. From a nature perspective, the new moon changes have started.

Maybe we should wait and see what happens with the spiral task. We don't know who's coming back from that one... Lets see who, if anyone, suddenly changes teams once the staffs are in play.

I'm with Tank on this one, time is of the essence but we can't afford to make mistakes now. My personal vote is for Private, we don't know if anyone is a mole for Ruthie but i'd suspect Edward for that role over Private if it came to a choice. But let's see what happens with the staves.

Also, excellent work, Luci. I think most of us missed that, myself included. Grew insight!

Dear Snow Virtual Book Club,

I would like to apologize for the abrupt end to our gathering.

Shortly before we came together, it was brought to my attention that the Society's Slate was missing from the Vault. This fact shook me, but I had a promise to keep to our Club. I pulled myself together and as the music played in the background, my mind began to wander back to the Society's Slate.

As you know, I did attempt to move forward with our chat, but a wee bird whispered to me, "Some in your Book Club are working with Peg Harmon and Natasha Haynes Triplet. They took the the Slate. They want to stop the Snow People." Why would anyone want to stop the Snow People? These cherished snowy beings bring joy to Snow Town. It is our duty to care for them and protect them. The moment you took the Slate from the Vault and began this march toward their undoing, is when you broke the promise Snow Town's founders made with the Snow People back in 1711! The Hoskins, Haynes and Harmons gave their word they would never allow any harm to come to the Snow People. Our Society's covenant tells us to follow in our foremother's and forefather's footsteps as we walk the woods and Spirals. We understand the reasons behind our traditions. You do not. You do not understand what you have now unleashed.

I will meet with Peg Harmon and the others today at five o'clock. I will follow her directions and walk the Lower Spiral. I will turn the Hoskins' staff over to you. You shall do what you choose with the information. Granting you all that, I beg you to allow me to see the markings on the staffs as well. After that, I ask you to give me 12 hours to complete the rites of our Society. This will still give you plenty of time to carry out your crusade before the New Moon at 3:46 pm.

Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.

My vote is with Lawrence. I don't think it's a matter just of integrity, it's also whether they have the ability to do what needs doing.

Edward, Clare, and Julie have all been affected by the Snow People (Julie drawn like a moth to a flame. then dead". Edward and Clare have both run when they got scared.

Lawrence has been right there by Peg's side when things got scary. He doesn't seem affected by them. We do need to ask Peg what she thinks (and we've kind of hinted towards it on the blog) and get his contact details.

What is important - Don't reserve the book till after they've got the stakes. Natasha was clear about that.

Well, we've only got an hour and a half before the library closes until Saturday...so we are in a bit of a time crunch here. Hopefully Peg will be back at her computer soon...
