Since ARGFest 2011 starts on my birthday this year... I don't know how likely it is that I'll attend. Family had other plans that week.

Maybe I could convince them that Bloomington is much more exciting than, say, Disney World...

I'm FINALLY gonna be able to attend an ARGFest! It's not far from me and I have absolutely nothing holding me back this year.

With that said, I am actively looking for someone to room with. I don't have a reservation and am hoping to make plans with someone ASAP. PM me or reply here if you're interested.

Travel plans...
Ok, so I think I've got a schedule nailed down, though nothing is purchased yet... anyone also traveling from Toronto/GTA/Ontario at all?

I'm sacrificing travel time for cost this time, for the joy of traveling... as it stands:
1. taking the Greyhound on Tuesday to Detroit (and transit to Amtrak to wait overnight)
2. leave on Amtrak Wednesday morning, transfer in Chicago, to arrive in Indianapolis Wednesday evening
3. Shuttle to Indianapolis Uni/Biddle Wednesday eve.
hotel plans are in the works...

The plan is to stay over the last Sunday night to head out home Monday morning.

Over all it's cheaper than flying (~$400 round trip, from home to hotel), less hassle with security and whatnot, but man it's a longer trip... that's fine, lots of geocaches to pass the time

Now if anyone else is coming from Ontario, I'd definitely be up for chatting about some shared travel plans (like driving cross-border to Detroit and splitting gas, instead of taking the bus ) or something.

Anyway, I think I'll be finalizing and purchasing all the travel plans by the early bird registration deadline.


Quick question: is waiting overnight at the Detroit greyhound or amtrack station allowed? legal? is there a curfew or anything? I've waited overnight under the Greyhound station shelter in Toronto without issue. Is Detroit tighter on that?

Hmm...honestly, since you're getting pretty close to downtown, most of the hotels in the area are probably going to be your higher-end ones or else are going to be at the total opposite end of the spectrum, complete fleabag motels which are rather questionable. That said, I'd maybe check Priceline to see if you can get a decent deal on an older 3-star hotel/motel in the area, like the St. Regis or something like that. You might be able to swing something for less than $75 American, for a single-night stay.

Another thing worth considering during your brief stay in Detroit is that, as the "Motor City", it's not particularly pedestrian-friendly, and don't expect much in the way of options for public transit. Unlike, say, a city like New York Chicago, Detroit doesn't have a subway or an el; people DRIVE pretty much everywhere. So if you're looking at hotels farther than just a mile or so away from the station, prepare to think about taxis and what have you.
