I doubt it will work. Melissa is seeking personal vengance on "the assasin"

The only way to subside her drive is to deliver dana to her, or to convince her to defer her advancement on dana until such a time that we can resolve the larger problem, the discovery and understanding of the "truth."

Hopefully at that point Mel will have advanced her condition enough to be able to convince her to forgive and forget.

We could always fake Dana's death. That way she would think that she wouldn't be able to get her vengence. All we'd have to do is contact Dana without Melissa knowing and convince her to do nothing for a few weeks while we send stuff to Dana's GMail like "Oh God, I hope you're not dead" and "are you really dead".
